CLIENT CASE STUDY

Top US financial services company: Cloud strategy and operating model

One of the top five banks in the U.S. was planning to launch an independent technology division free from legacy constraints.

Overview

However, the bank required support from an outside vendor that could lead a large-scale business transformation. The bank selected Accenture to design the new company’s cloud strategy and a first-of-its-kind operating model that enabled the client to identify more than 50 percent cost savings. This involved designing an organization chart with all required roles to operate a US$2 billion technology company that delivers on-demand, software-defined infrastructure services.

Opportunity
A history of global expansion had left the bank with a highly complex and costly organizational structure that made it difficult to respond to market challenges and regulatory changes nimbly. Limited documentation of the bank's current operating model and workflows added to the challenge.

Solution

Accenture developed a first-of-its-kind operating model for the brand new company and helped identify more than 50 percent cost savings. This involved designing an organization chart with all required roles to operate a US$2 billion technology company that delivers on-demand, software-defined infrastructure services.

Results
The overall effort is anticipated to reduce operating expenses for infrastructure by 40 to 60 percent. Accenture is working on the migration plan and migration factory so that the migration itself can begin and continue through 2018.

Accenture’s approach allowed the bank to realize global economies of scale, avoid vendor lock-in and leverage commoditized infrastructure with high levels of automation, while raising the performance and flexibility of the infrastructure organization.
