Opportunity
The company had a testing shared services organization to standardize common testing services across its various business units. However, it set a goal to further improve testing productivity by 15 percent over five years. The company was looking for a service provider to oversee its testing operations through a managed service model to:

  • Reduce test operations cost.

  • Standardize testing operations and processes across various business units.

  • Reduce delivery risk by transitioning application testing to a managed service model.

  • Manage staffing fluctuations while retaining resource knowledge.

  • Improve the predictability and quality of delivery while driving test automation and innovation.

Solution

Accenture was selected to oversee testing operations in a managed service model leveraging its Global Delivery Network. Accenture set up a dedicated Testing Center of Excellence for the company and combined its proprietary intelligent tools with the client’s delivery methodology to help reduce cost of common testing services and improve overall test performance. The company was also able to mitigate delivery risk and manage fluctuations in demand for testing resources, leveraging Accenture’s global network of test professionals and improved demand forecasting. It used Accenture’s Life Sciences domain specialists to improve requirements quality.

Results

Accenture established a robust, wiki-based knowledge management framework and implemented intelligent tools to save the company more than estimated USD $700,000. Using a shift-left approach to focus on identifying issues earlier in the project life cycle, the company was able to improve overall quality of software requirements by 25 percent, reducing defect injection at later stages.
