Overview

A leading global food manufacturer wanted to standardize and simplify its global business processes and functions, starting with the Americas business unit, and integrate its SAP platform.

The company streamlined its North American operations across more than 160 locations by reimplementing SAP, leveraging Accenture’s specialists and assets in the Consumer Packaged Goods industry to accelerate the design phase.

This implementation will be used as the base for subsequent global rollouts.

After implementation, the Accenture team transitioned into ongoing application development and maintenance support through a long-term outsourcing application agreement, reducing cost and risks, while exceeding all productivity targets on tickets.

Opportunity

  • Accenture’s CPG Solution Factory, a one-to-many delivery model serving multiple clients using a shared pool of resources, is managing the multi-year design, build and deployment of the SAP solution across more than 160 manufacturing and distribution sites in North America.
  • Following implementation, established a high-quality, flexible and adaptable long-term, co-sourced application support model, enabling knowledge retention and reducing risk by seamlessly transitioning 40 percent of the resources from design/build to the sustainment phase.

  • Helped the company reduce ongoing application development and maintenance costs with a delivery-center led, 24 x 7 support model with greater than 65 percent of resources offshore.

  • Managed SAP CRM support as well, providing greater control and oversight by consolidating support with a single team.

Results

The company successfully deployed a standardized SAP enterprise solution across more than 160 manufacturing and distribution sites in North America. This implementation will serve as a base for subsequent rollouts in other geographies, facilitating the implementation of industry best practices and robust IT governance and change management processes.

Now, the company has a scalable IT platform and standard processes based on leading practices from which it can expand rapidly, through organic growth or acquisition, and it has a flexible, adaptable, cost effective approach to application maintenance.

In addition, the company jumpstarted its SAP platform solution using Accenture Advanced Enterprise Solution to accelerate time to benefits, while lowering costs and risk associated with new geography rollouts.

It reduced system downtime and enhanced performance and availability, through a number of innovations, for example by identifying and eliminating unnecessary dependencies, in order to run more jobs in parallel.

Today, the company has improved application sustainability, allowing greater flexibility and adaptability, and laying a foundation for long-term high performance.
