Federal IT leaders recognize that the cloud offers more adaptive, scalable and resilient computing infrastructure. However, they often struggle with near-term obstacles unique to government. Accenture Federal Services brings together Accenture’s global leadership in cloud computing and industry-leading partnerships with deep understanding of the federal domain to help agencies overcome these hurdles. Our Journey to the Cloud framework and comprehensive capabilities allow us to create and implement agency-specific roadmaps for application modernization, cloud migration, DevOps adoption and much more.
According to research conducted by Accenture, the government sector had the highest average technical debt per application of eleven industries examined. Excessive technical debt in enterprise applications inhibits agility, increases operating costs and produces security vulnerabilities, and can lead to crippling system outages. Accenture Federal Services’ Digital Decoupling Study—a survey of 185 federal government IT leaders—examines this modernization conundrum, shedding light on the magnitude of the problem, identifying the key impediments, and revealing attitudes about how best to break down the barriers to innovation and adoption of new technologies.
As part of their response to the challenged launch of Healthcare.gov, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) engaged Accenture Federal Services as the prime development contractor, with responsibility for stabilizing and improving the website, and finishing development of the additional systems and interfaces. We rapidly mobilized a team of five hundred architects, developers, engineers and program managers in just six weeks to take over management of the system. Taking advantage of a Cloud First approach, the environment was quickly strengthened to meet demand with new functionality subsequently deployed to significantly expand usability.
The cadence of IT operations needs to accelerate dramatically to deliver successfully at the speeds digital technologies and modern missions require. Recognizing this imperative, Accenture Federal Services and Federal Computer Week recently brought CTO’s from the U.S. Air Force, Veteran Affairs, GSA and FEMA together to share how they are reshaping their IT organizations. The report – Partnerships, Agile Practices Speed Up Government Modernization, Leaders Say – captures their thinking and much more. Additional featured insight includes Accenture Federal Services CTO Dominic Delmolino on the next wave of technologies transforming government, and AWS’s Mark Schwartz and Gus Hunt of Accenture Federal Services on the practices needed to sustain DevOps at scale in government.
