Accenture and GE have teamed up to bring IIoT innovation to industrial businesses. As part of this strategic global alliance, Accenture and GE develop and deliver technology and analytics applications that help companies across a range of industries such as Oil & Gas, Utilities and Chemicals, to leverage the massive amounts of data generated through their business.
Leveraging GE’s domain expertise as a 125-year-old industrial company, as well as GE’s own experience transforming into a Digital Industrial company, the partnership predicates itself as the joining of experts for this next industrial revolution.
For our Oil & Gas, Utilities and Chemicals clients, applying digital innovation to complex production operations requires a unique set of skills: from physically connecting existing equipment to enabling advanced analytics models at the plant level and addressing how technological advancements and innovations are impacting customers and workers at scale.
What we offer
Through our end-to-end capabilities, combined with our industry leading IoT Digital services through Industry X, Accenture and GE offer extensive industry presence and knowledge. Our combined focus is to increase productivity and availability of equipment with longer asset life and decrease operational cost and financial risk.
To that end, Accenture is GE’s only partner with a co-planned GE APM Center of Excellence. Accenture continues to grow that capability through client work as well as training and certification provided by GE. Once GE’s APM tools are in place, business value levers such as better inventory control, increased compliance, and proactive maintenance practices can be put into place.
Additional GE products and solutions, such as Predictive Corrosion Management, can be introduced with faster speed to value. Accenture assets, such as Digital Plant and Dynamic Business Planning, can add further value to our mutual clients.
Global natural resources organization: Delivering a cloud-hosted asset performance management upgrade
Accenture and GE Digital (GED) worked side by side with a global natural resources organization to deliver a cloud-hosted asset performance management upgrade. GED delivered the product blueprint, infrastructure design recommendation, technical build of the solution and data migration. Accenture managed the project and delivered all other elements of the solution including infrastructure, networking, integration, security, SAP PI and ECC configuration, integration and functional testing, and the migration of data reconciliation for 22 million records and final deployment.
The work has led to the client implementing a globally managed, standardized and scalable product on a consumption based, fully scalable cloud hosted solution. This has reduced the total cost of ownership (TCO), as well as the effort in maintaining the n-1 version of the application. In addition, reverting to out-of-the-box functionality eliminates technical debt and creates a consistent and regression risk-free experience across the workforce.
Additional benefits of the upgrade include:
- Replacement of the old client server architecture with a browser-based solution. The new solution runs faster and with fewer errors on the client's global network, even when connecting to remote sites. Operating entirely on HTML5, the new solution has a contemporary user-interface design, including improved look, feel and navigation.
- Utilization of Mobile Inspection Routes functionality in the new solution to reduce the steps required to digitize and input data into the analysis part of the solution. Leveraging this functionality, the client expects to see significant field worker productivity gains.
- Improved insights across business units through the re-use of the same methods and ways of recording, analyzing and representing data.
Integrated energy company: Improving asset care and management through the APM Corporate Solution
A large integrated energy company was challenged with asset failures and unplanned downtimes, and needed asset care strategies and optimization to achieve better production optimization, resource allocation and cost control. Working with Accenture, the company implemented the corporate APM solution, formerly Meridium, in its pipeline facility, including key requirements such as automating the load of notification/work orders and monitoring the effectiveness of asset care strategies.
Accenture also developed APM end-user training tailored to client maintenance and reliability users and based on the client’s business processes. This training significantly expanded on the basic instructions provided by APM allowing users to employ the new system more effectively, and increasing acceptance and user satisfaction of the new system.
As a result of the work, the client has realized numerous benefits including improvements in process and equipment dependability, improved data-driven decision making at an asset management level and a reduction in equipment failures and unplanned down times.
Today, the client continues to better monitor and manage maintenance costs by increasing asset reliability. Accenture continues to work with the client, as it moves to upgrade all of its sites to APM Classic (Meridium) version 4.3.
