I was recognized as an “Inspirational Working Mother” where I work—at Accenture, a global professional services company—as part of its Japan Best People Awards. After I obtained this award, many women colleagues asked me how I manage to balance working at a demanding job with my life as the mother of a young child.
One of the best ways is to creatively use whatever business tools you can to make yourself as effective as possible and to create flexibility between home and work. For example, Skype Business is a tool I use on my laptop that allows me to attend meetings from my home, so I don’t always have to be in the office. This ability to meet virtually makes me much more productive and efficient with my time, which is a great bonus for the quality of life for me and my family.
When I am in the office, I usually leave at 5 p.m., so I have time to play with my son. But I’m still a core member of a very challenging and interesting team. I am able to do both and would like to be a role model for other young mothers.
