Job One: Reimagine the state government workforce
State governments have always had to compete for talent. Now the challenges are reaching a fever pitch thanks to demographic and social forces. While state leaders recognize the obstacles, most aren’t yet doing enough to overcome them. New research from the National Association of State Chief Administrators (NASCA) in collaboration with Accenture and NEOGOV with assistance from the National Association of State Personnel Executives (NASPE) suggests that as the public and private sectors battle for talent, government is falling too far behind in preparing for the workforce of the future.
To close the gap—and attract the best talent—states must start making bold moves today.
On March 8th, we celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) at the San Francisco Innovation Hub together with our clients. Hosted by Mary Hamilton and Diana Bersohn, attendees participated in dialogue around how to embrace a diversity of thought to drive innovation—and the actions we can take to build an inclusive culture.
From the ‘Leadership DNA’ presentations, ‘Power of Allies and Advocates’ panels, to ‘Next Generation of Leaders’ discussion with John Del Santo and his daughter, Madeleine Del Santo, guests were able to explore the Hub and take part in an interactive discussion about how equality in the workplace will drive the next generation of leaders. The day concluded with a Keynote from Kara Goldin, Founder and CEO of hint, in conversation with Kara Kelly.LEARN MORE ABOUT GETTING TO EQUAL
The latest California State Pulse Survey insights have arrived! With homelessness a growing concern in California, and a wide variety of programs, pilot initiatives and proposals to address the issue proliferating around the state, we asked Californians to share their views on the importance of using data to better understand the extent and nature of homelessness. For example, would access to a statewide database of individuals and families experiencing homelessness help government officials better understand the underlying causes?
Accenture is undertaking short public surveys several times per year on a range of topics. The polls tap the views of 1,000 voting age adults and are shared to help inform public debates and promote understanding of Californians' opinions on emerging issues.
As a technology leader and digital innovator, Accenture is dedicated to working with state and local government agencies to develop transformative ways to enhance performance and implement cost-effective initiatives that bring value to citizens. We are proud to support Code for America and applaud their vision for simple, accessible, easy to use government services to improve citizen outcomes.

Accenture’s groundbreaking work with state and local government agencies across California reflects our commitment to helping our clients achieve high performance. We work with agencies to bridge the gap between government, citizens and business for better outcomes.
Case in point: Consortium C-IV – Working with 39 California counties, Accenture helped integrate human services to streamline the management of multiple benefit programs for caseworkers and customers. The welfare departments reduced 205 processes to 58 and creating common procedures for the four counties. Then, based on these improvements, they developed an integrated, Web-based solution to manage all of their functions, with a single database to house information for all four welfare departments.
Accenture engages in a variety of corporate citizenship activities across California—a commitment that reflects our firm-wide belief in giving back to the communities where we work and live.
