What I Do

I am a Senior Manager in Accenture’s Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) practice where I specialize in the design, implementation and delivery of Oracle Business Intelligence (OBIEE), BI Analytics and Global Data Warehouse reporting solutions. As part of my delivery role, I work with our clients in various capacities to define reporting strategies and supporting technologies that are in alignment with their short and long term vision for Business Intelligence.

Outside of delivery, I am a Certified Solution Architect and core member of the Oracle BI - Opportunity Team. As a Solution Architect I support proposals, participate in sales presentations, and prepare the estimates, schedules, work plans, and resource plans for potential Oracle BI opportunities.

Prior to joining Accenture I was a Senior Consultant at Oracle Consulting where I was responsible for implementing PeopleSoft EPM, Planning & Budgeting, and Global Data Warehouse reporting solutions.

Day in my Life

On a normal week, I spend 4 out of 5 days at the client site. Since most of my work is not local to my home office, I typically fly out early Monday morning and return home on Thursday evening. When I am in route to the client site on Monday morning I often use this time to prepare for my upcoming day and finish any remaining work from the previous week.

A typical day for me at the client site is a combination of meetings and working sessions that are focused on project related deliverables. I often find a large percentage of my day is consumed by meetings that are necessary to meet key project milestones. Examples include meetings with my direct team, my client counterparts, and project leadership to discuss status and other cross-team related topics. I usually find time later in the evening to catch up on email and other work related to the project.

After l leave the office I normally return to my hotel and spend about an hour at the gym before going to dinner. I try to meet up with my co-workers from the project before returning home on Thursday night. On most Friday’s I work from home and use my time to finish remaining work from earlier in the week. This is also a good time to do status reports, conference calls, and other administrative items that may not be directly related to the project.

Outside the Office/Work

Outside of the office I ride with a cycling club near my home in West Palm Beach, FL. I ride with the club on weekends and often participate in century rides and other cycling events in south Florida. I also make a few trips every year to my home town in upstate NY where I visit family and participate in competitive rides in the Adirondack Mountains.

My wife is originally from Mexico City, Mexico. We make frequent trips to Mexico City for vacation and to visit family over the holidays. Both of us are avid soccer fans and often attend club games throughout the year in the US and Mexico. This summer we spent a lot of time watching the World Cup at various events with our friends in south Florida. On evenings, we make regular visits to the West Palm Beach Intracoastal to enjoy dinner and live music outside by the water. This is a great way to relax and spend time after a busy week at work.

My Advice

Accenture offers a wide range of opportunities that span across multiple workforces, industries, and career models. If you are considering a career at Accenture, it is important to be aware of these options and identify the opportunity that is most closely aligned with your career goals and expectations. Accenture also provides an excellent mentor and career counseling program that is designed to assist with career development and growth within the firm.

I joined Accenture as an experienced Manager about 5 years ago and found networking to be one of the best ways to learn more about the Accenture culture and methodology. My advice to new joiners is to attend community meetings and Accenture sponsored events whenever possible. These events are a great way to build your network and learn more about the firm in a relaxed setting outside of the office.

As an experienced hire, I also found training to be very important and essential to understanding Accenture’s delivery tools and methodology. This knowledge is fundamental to your success on a project and will be a building block to developing your career with the firm. New employees should view training as a means for continuous learning and use it as a tool to enhance your skills in specific technologies and industries.
