"Never be afraid to try something new."

What I Do

As a technology consulting senior analyst, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles with very different tasks. I have played a part in almost all aspects of the delivery lifecycle including: functional, testing and assisting with development. I have worked exclusively in the life sciences industry since joining Accenture and have been able to see the direct impact my work has on the lives of others. It is truly remarkable to see that the work I am completing contributes to a better life for someone.

Most of my time is spent as a business analyst where I work closely with client and business partners to flesh out the details for future and existing functionality. This involves meeting with clinical, marketing and system designers to accommodate all aspects of the business. I work closely with different teams on the project to ensure that the designs are clearly understood and enough guidance is provided. This often involves becoming an expert in the field to understand the business need for the project.

Day in my Life

A day in my life can vary greatly depending on the current role and status of the project. As a business analyst, the majority of my time is spent coordinating with the offshore team, maintaining designs and investigating any potential issues. This involves working with the client and Accenture team to determine the best solution for the business. Throughout my day I often find myself switching hats to make sure I am seeing all sides of the problem and to ensure that the solution is not one-sided. Sometimes in the evening, depending on the state of the project, I will join a call to discuss the project tasks with the offshore team. When this happens I like to break up the day by taking a break for dinner and a trip to the gym for a workout. Otherwise, I like to use my evenings to explore the city and spend time with friends during the week.

Outside the Office

There are two main things I enjoy doing outside of work: Playing sports and spending time with family and friends. I participate in all sorts of sports including: softball, basketball, soccer and golf. Throughout the week I try to participate in competitive leagues to take my mind off of work and see my friends. An ideal Saturday for me would be spending the day on the golf course with my family or a group of friends. Outside of sports, I really enjoy spending time with friends exploring the city, attending different events, and taking vacations (of course!).

My Advice

Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone! This is the time when you will learn the most and truly advance the skills required at the next level. There will be times when you are put into situations that are extremely new and uncomfortable, but experimenting and overcoming obstacles/mistakes will set you up for success in the future. Accenture provides the opportunities for individuals to solve problems in many different areas of expertise, which constantly allows for growth and improvement. Absorb as much knowledge as possible from your project leaders and the company’s leadership team.
