"Our cybersecurity work gives clients the peace of mind to run their businesses successfully—knowing their data is safeguarded and protected."

What I do

When I explain my job to others, I often use social media as an example. Almost everyone has a social media account these days and understands the need for guarding specific information. The systems that allow people to control who can see account information about themselves are called Identity and Access Management tools. I am in charge of installing and configuring these tools at large organizations to enable a secure profile or account.

I studied software engineering in college and have always loved problem-solving. When I was looking for a job, I was introduced to the world of IT security and was drawn to the possibility of stopping unwanted access to protected data.

A day in my life

At this point in my career, I'm most excited about the project I am currently working on. We are truly paving a new path for how organizations approach compliance. We have taken leading-edge technologies and applied them to problems that have affected organizations for years. This is enabling an approach to authentication and authorization that will be successful for years to come.

As the tech lead for that project, I have my hand in many parts of the project. I'm currently working with Big Data databases, machine learning analytics and containerization tools, as well as solutioning highly available architecture. Most of these technologies I’ve learned on the job, allowing me to continue to challenge myself with my work.

Accenture has been more than flexible with my career and has allowed me to shape my own path. Originally, I was drawn to travel, but as I grew older my priorities changed, and I moved within the company to add value in a different position.

When I’m not at work, one of my passions is aviation. I enjoy flying with friends around the city or taking trips around the country.

My advice

Approach the unknown head-on. I did not know a lot about cybersecurity when I first began, but I found my niche within the organization. Cybersecurity has a lot to offer that most may not know about. By far the biggest misconception about cybersecurity is related to what people see in the movies. While there are parts of cybersecurity that directly interact with hackers, there are many more aspects to the field that are just as exciting.
