How I put change in motion

In my role as a Digital Platform Architecture Senior Principal, I help architect enterprise websites that deliver digital user experiences. If you frequently see fresh content on your favorite websites, it’s because people like me have helped build solutions for marketers to keep the content relevant in an ever-changing world. We also help provide a personalized experience by helping companies identify what matters to you most, based upon the information you have shared and provided through repeated visits to the site.

Recently, I was the lead architect for the migration from Sitecore to the Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) platform. The project was extra special to me because it was doing what I do best for my own company. As the lead AEM developer trainer for many years, this was bridging my two passions together: training and project delivery.

We bring a variety of consulting elements to one project to deliver 360 value for our clients. In at least 80% of my projects, I get to work alongside many different pillars within Accenture, including strategists, industry experts, UX designers and change enablers.

It’s so important to keep your skills fresh. Accenture offers continuous learning opportunities to keep our skills and certifications up to date. We also have access to vendor-provided courses if the topic is not already incorporated into our learning program.

A day in my life

Here’s what my day might look like:

  • Start my day early to spend dedicated time with my development team. Early mornings allow my offshore team to log off at a reasonable time to head off to enjoy their evenings, and I get to start my day with one of the most important connections of my day (with my team).
  • Check in with the client to provide development updates, discuss architectural patterns that still need to be outlined and communicate any concerns or new areas the client is thinking about including into the technical stack that we are building for them.

  • Heads-down time to be ready for the next morning’s set of meetings, progress of deliverables and engaging in my plus-one activities, ranging from supporting a new deal we are trying to win with another client, engaging in a passion project that Accenture has helped me pursue or partake in some personal learning time.
  • With an early start to my days, I do try to log off at a decent time to spend quality time with my family. You may still catch me online a little bit later just to follow up on some late emails or ensure I’m prepped for the next day, but I give my family equal quality time as I do with my career.
"I start my day with one of the most important connections of my day (with my team).”

My advice

There is always room to keep growing and learning. While I’m focused on the area of AEM implementations, I’ve recently started to learn about other platforms in the commerce experience. It’s helped me better provide value to our clients by being versed in both the digital experience and e-commerce sides of the house.

Explore by engaging in online videos and training to learn more. Not only will you be able to learn more and grow your skillset—you’ll also be able to find which topics you’re passionate about. When the work interests you, it becomes less work and more of a hobby that you get paid to do.
