What I do

The work I do involves ensuring that every button click in a Salesforce application functions according to what the user is expecting it to do. It is analogous to a plumber who makes sure that when you turn on the hot water tap to take a shower, it is clean water coming out from the water heater—and not cold water from the drainage pipes.

A day in my life

The best part about working at Accenture for me is the access to many experienced people such as various industry subject matter experts, platform-specific technical experts, DevOps specialists and enterprise architects. Accenture also has the largest number of Salesforce CTAs globally of any partner, and it feels reassuring to know that I can always reach out to them as a sounding board for complex technical challenges.

The most exciting project I have worked on was implementing a custom Salesforce application for a global consumer goods company. It involved large data volume processing on a daily basis, coupled with a complex security model. This required a secure and reliable architecture design spanning across Salesforce and interfacing external systems within the IT landscape.

Outside of work, I enjoy running and cycling (especially when I cannot arrive at a satisfactory resolution on technical issues), visiting museums and playing online multiplayer games with mates.

My advice

If you are working toward becoming a Salesforce technical architect, it is good to have Salesforce development knowledge and to familiarize yourself with the platform's governing limits and understand its point-and-click native capabilities. Also, get involved in enterprise-level projects implementing and delivering Salesforce applications to gain experience on managing stakeholder expectations and synthesizing client requirements into viable technical solutions.

Know what works (and what doesn't) in the real world, and get exposure to other enterprise technologies. It is very important to be aware of other software technologies to help you understand how Salesforce fits and integrates into the client's complex IT architecture landscape.
