What I do

It may sound surprising, but part of my job as a Senior Service Designer includes building empathy. By interviewing and observing customers and putting myself in their shoes, I help our clients create products and services that their customers want or need. After facilitating co-creative workshops with our clients, we create concrete product and service designs. We make come to life by prototyping and testing them with end users. And then we build them!

One exciting project was redesigning the traveler experience for an international airport. It ended up being an intense 12 weeks during which we collaborated with the airport’s project team to define and test a dozen new ways of interacting with travelers. Some of the concepts we designed are being used by thousands of airport travelers as we speak; knowing that the solutions we create work for the people we designed them for makes a project even more exciting.

A day in my life

Moving from an idea about a new service offering to the realization of this idea requires working with many people, with a diverse set of skills and perspectives. I collaborate with colleagues from across Accenture, from people in Strategy to rethink business models, to colleagues in Technology to create new platform experiences. They all possess different, but essential, pieces of the puzzle; the puzzle being the holistic customer experience you want to end up with.

“Crafting” is a skill that all Accenture people have in common—not in the traditional sense of the word, but more in their mindset, both toward our clients and their own careers. Accenture’s flat, open way of working and its global, multiskilled teams are big catalysts in this individual and collective crafting process. You’re actively encouraged to discover what makes you tick by trying out new things that are interesting to you.

My hobbies outside of work are hockey, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, backpacking, reading, reflecting and learning.

My advice

Be humble. Always be eager to learn from other people. From the people you are designing new solutions for and the client you are working with to the colleagues you meet along the way, they all bring different perspectives that can be of value when you are tackling your next big challenge.
