What I do

I lead teams to help improve customer user experiences for our clients, primarily on web sites and mobile apps. We also set up teams within our clients’ walls capable of continually improving customer experiences. This work is tricky because it’s based on data. But the outcomes are worth it; the work leads to happier customers who are less likely to go elsewhere.

I have to say, my most recent project is my most beloved. It was rewarding because my team of roughly a dozen worked closely with other parts of Accenture and the client to make some revolutionary changes in how customers experience the brand. We helped the brand’s mobile app ratings climb to more than four stars out of five in the app stores. Seeing that “customer love” really makes me feel like I’m doing something right!

A day in my life

Because I have a relatively rare set of skills, I find myself traveling to my clients’ sites more often than working out of Accenture offices. Luckily, I consider that a perk. I greatly value this time with client stakeholders; it brings me face-to-face with the folks who need our help. Often, these close working relationships turn into friendships—many of which have lasted for years. When I’m not with a client (perhaps 50 percent of the time), I have the flexibility of working from home or at the Accenture Digital Hub in Chicago.

There are times I look around the room and can’t believe my good fortune. Before I joined Accenture, these types of revelations were rare. In my eight years here, they’ve practically become the norm.

In my spare time, my social media profile says, “Avid reader. Actual film nut. Pretend rock climber.” I would add my love of nearly all types of music. Depending on my mood, I’ll work while listening to playlists ranging from classical and neo-classical to hip-hop and electronic dance music. It’s really quite a racket, which is why earbuds are a must!

My advice

A college writing teacher, clearly convinced that I needed this advice (based on a life decision I was considering making), returned a book I had loaned her with an index card, inserted as a bookmark. Written on it, in her handwriting, was this quote from Carlos Castaneda: “Does this path have a heart?” The pace of change at Accenture is accelerating. More than ever, learn to learn.
