"Technology and data are very much at the heart of our work, and guiding clients on their journey is the most challenging and fun part of the job."

What I do

As an Analytics Analyst in the Accenture Fraud, Risk and Compliance practice, I use my coding and analytical skills—including advanced analytics and artificial intelligence—to guide clients through their fraud and risk issues, particularly within the anti-money-laundering and know-your-customer spaces.

I really enjoy the problem-solving aspect of data analytics and the challenge of finding hidden links within data and making it more consumable or understandable. Technology and data are very much at the heart of our work, and guiding clients on their journey is the most challenging and fun part of the job.

A day in my life

I really enjoyed my first client project with Accenture, a data visualization project for a large, international retail company. The most innovative part of the project was developing proof-of-concept (PoC) dashboards. I developed a search-tool solution that allowed the client to combat fraudulent returns by querying a live dataset of sales across all their stores. The client was in the process of upgrading legacy systems to more relevant technology, and this PoC allowed them to see what was possible in the New.

In my free time I like to game, read economics articles and go to the gym from time to time. If I didn’t have this job, I would like to think I would be doing data analytics elsewhere.

My advice

The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is to keep asking questions. As annoying as you think asking a question might be, making a mistake due to assumptions is more annoying. Learn as much as you can from the amazing people you work with.

Be as honest with yourself as possible; your colleagues will go out of your way to help you when they see a genuine person trying their hardest. Always keep learning and upskilling—that knowledge stays with you, no matter where you are in your career.
