At Fjord, Business Design and Strategy is integral to the design process. The strategists, pragmatists, and creative thinkers on our Business Design and Strategy team establish people-centric business strategies for our clients, fusing the practices of design and strategy to structure the business impact of design at a strategic, operational, and organizational level. As the Group Strategy Director, you will be responsible leading our craft of business design and strategy. You’ll provide executive oversite to projects, manage others, shape the team’s skills, build our craft, and shape our future work. Design is the problem-solving paradigm of our age, and Business Design & Strategy is our way of shaping and influencing the world.

 

As a team, we:

  • Solve and reframe business problems using a design mindset.

  • Help our clients build their future, from measurement and KPI modeling through to organizational impact and strategic road mapping.

  • Translate between several languages at once (operational, technical, financial, to name but three) to find the best path to achieve the greatest impact.

As the Group Strategy Director, you:

  • Drive design quality, practice, and offerings that meet business and user goals as well as create new offerings within Fjord.

  • Lead design points of view, proposal creation, and relationship management across multiple key clients.

  • Deeply understand the market and can speak to our clients and the industry about our content, craft, and trends.

  • Lead the business design and strategy craft, including managing business design and strategy resources and ensuring their skills and outputs align to our quality expectations.

  • Assess performance and provide career guidance and performance decisions for members of the studio Design team.

  • Provide directional oversight of individual project teams’ work and assume overall accountability for it.

  • Develop pitch decks and project approaches that lead to exciting, inspiring, and well-shaped work for our Design team.

  • Cultivate relationships with new and existing clients.

  • Uncover opportunities to apply business design, strategy, and design thinking to solve challenges for key accounts.

  • Build and strengthen the multidisciplinary skillsets of design teams across the studio.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • 12 years experience in professional services demonstrated progressive growth in leading complex projects and programs in the fields of strategy or design
  • 5 years managing diverse strategy and design teams

  • A demonstrated commitment to people development

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation and facilitation skills

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in leading strategy engagements as well as transitioning those engagements into creative executions

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative c skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business or related field

  • Willingness to travel ~20% of the time

Preferred Skills & Qualifications: 

  • MBA or other relevant masters degree
  • Experience with Excel and/or other analysis tools, PowerPoint, Keynote and/or Adobe Creative Suite for presentation purposes

  • Familiarity with InVision, Sketch, or other prototyping methods

  • Ability to learn how to use new tools in real time

  • History of tackling and solving complex business challenges; a strong personal mission to help find truths and challenge orthodoxies

  • Growing mastery of the Business Design landscape, including but not limited to design intelligence, measurement, KPIs, organizational change, venturing, design storytelling, design thinking, culture change, coaching, business/investment case generation, and product management

  • Deep understanding of Service Design and User Experience Design and how to solve strategic challenges from a Human- Centered Design perspective

  • Prior experience using agile methodology

  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple cross-discipline teams
