Job Description

Accenture Research uncovers trends and shape data-driven insights through Thought Leadership and Research for Accenture and its clients. Accenture Research combines deep understanding of Accenture clients’ industries with leading-edge research techniques to discover the most pressing issues facing organizations today.

Our growing team of 250 researchers and analysts develops thought-provoking research -- supported by proprietary data and partnerships with leading organizations that guides our innovations and allows us to transform theories and fresh ideas into real-world solutions for our clients.

Our team uses innovative business research techniques such as economic value modeling, analytics, crowdsourcing, expert networks, surveys, data visualization, and open research with Tier 1 academic and business partners.

Accenture Research powers hundreds of points of views published by Accenture every year, answers thousands of thought provoking questions from clients around the world, drives the insights that guides Accenture’s business strategy and handles Accenture’s exclusive network of data and sources covering all industries, countries, market trends and digital technologies. The team is part of Accenture’s Strategy Office.

We work in two main areas:
  • Developing thought leadership and understanding trends: Accenture creates original, cutting-edge points of view to use with clients, the media and in conferences. Most of our projects are published and quoted in the media and you are expected to have a voice and an opinion on the industry both inside and beyond Accenture. Research into industry trends informs publications and the direction of our business.
  • Client-focused research: you will work alongside our colleagues from the practice to provide research on clients’ business challenges and opportunities, support proposals, engagements and day to day discussions with clients on their business and industry.

About the role

This Software & Platforms Analyst role is in our Communications Media and Technology (CMT) Research team of ~40 researchers worldwide and who will work directly with the practice and other members of the research team to support Accenture’s business.  Responsibilities will include carrying out research projects and actively contributing to more complex projects led by others. Research requests will be a mix of global and local projects, with a primary focus on North America, both for internal Accenture objectives and directly for Accenture clients. While it is assumed the researcher will focus on Software & Platforms projects, there may be occasions in which they will work on projects outside this core industry.

We are looking for someone with strong analytical and problem solving skills, quantitative skills/ comfort with numbers, ability to work with primary research data, business acumen, a client service mindset and interest in Software & Platforms companies (i.e., Internet and Social firms) who will be able to contribute to Accenture’s most recently formed industry. Of paramount importance are an ability to work well with others, personal drive, and an eagerness to learn and apply new skills and knowledge.

This role is in our US Research team.

What to expect

Accenture is a company of more than 442,000 employees working with clients in 120 countries and your first weeks will be spent getting to know the organization. Building an effective working relationship with the executives who lead the Software and Platforms and related CMT practices in Accenture so your early days will involve many meetings and lots of networking. At the same time you’ll be getting to know the researchers in the team and establishing a relationship with them. As you become more familiar with the organization you can expect to start work on one or more projects. There is no typical day or project at Accenture Research but you might start by working on an analysis of one of our clients or leveraging primary research data on consumer behavior or possibly enhancing a market model designed to identify the global market opportunity within the industry.

Over time you will find a varied project load develops and that you may be working on between two and four projects at any given time, of different durations and scope. You’ll build a good working relationship with the other CMT researchers worldwide. The team operates mainly on a virtual basis but we have regular calls and sometimes the opportunity to “meet” via video conference. We occasionally get together for a global meeting and have the chance to spend some time face to face with our international colleagues via training events.

In terms of career development there will be tremendous scope to expand and build on this role at the Analyst level. A dynamic, proactive researcher will find many opportunities to learn and grow at Accenture. The next promotion step is to Specialist (“Consultant” equivalent), where you would be expected to begin owning entire projects from initial sale to completion. Promotion opportunities are not based on time in the role, but on the business need (demand) and the readiness of an individual.

The research team is genuinely a great place to work (we recently scored amongst the highest in the firm for employee engagement). There will be times when you work very hard but we put life/work balance very high on our agenda.  In addition, as part of a global team, we seek to maintain flexibility in our work style.
