Technical Agile Coach – Software Engineering (Extreme Programming)

Our consultants and coaches help our clients master Agile practices including Extreme Programming (XP), Scrum, Lean, and Kanban. Our managing consultants guide customers with organizational change management, program planning and management, and portfolio management. Our Agile developers use Extreme Programming (XP) practices to build and deliver software for our customers.


Ideal candidates are experienced Agile Developers with the experience to introduce pair programming, test driven development, continuous integration and other technical practices by working side-by-side with developers.

Key Responsibilities:

This position offers opportunities to advise a busy Product Owner, developing software with a team, delivering training courses, documenting consulting deliverables, mentoring a team on Agile practices that will take them to the next level, and other similar activities. Candidates must be excellent listeners, possess outstanding facilitation and conflict-resolutions skills, and the ability to work in collaborative environments. The candidate will be selected based on their ability to function as a Consultant, Developer, Trainer, and Coach, although those in this role may frequently be involved in typical project delivery roles.


Basic Qualifications:


Agile: You have two years experience as a Certified ScrumMaster® where you demonstrated your strong knowledge and passion for Agile within an organization that has multiple teams and cross-dependencies. You have experience with Scrum, Extreme Programming (XP), Lean Software Development and other Agile methodologies


Educated: While your field of study may not be directly relevant, the fact that you have a Technical or Business Degree, or combination of relevant education and experience, shows your commitment to self-improvement and lifelong learning.


A Coach: With two years of team coaching experience under your belt, you use a varied coaching approach to cultivate the capabilities, skills and knowledge of all Agile team members, including:

  • Helping ScrumMasters identify and support opportunities to increase team maturity and productivity.
  • Helping Product Owners ensure the vision, roadmap and personas are well-defined and understood so that the Delivery Team is producing the right product.
  • Helping Delivery Teams continuously improve. Experience with processes and tools supporting Agile methodologies
  • Facilitation skills in leading planning meetings, reviews, and retrospectives

• This role requires 80-100% travel.  

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 10 years experience in technology/software organizations
  • Senior-level skills in systems architecture, design, development, and programming in object-oriented (Java) and relational databases and client server platforms
  • Experience with continuous integration including building a corporate CI server
  • Participate in test driven development and pair programming with other Developers
  • Experience with automated test frameworks and automated tests
  • Experienced at mentoring other Developers Experience in leading technical teams; skills as Coach and Consultant to development organizations
  • Experience conducting stand-up training
  • Experience developing training materials
  • Experience leading organizational change management
