Why I think it’s not just variety that’s the spice of life

One of the things I love about working in IT is the variety. There’s so many different avenues you can explore and skill sets to acquire—and new opportunities are emerging all the time as technology shifts and changes.

There’s never a dull moment. But sometimes it’s good to take stock and reflect on some of what’s happening in technology and how we’re handling the challenges.

For that reason, I thought you might be interested in some of the topics my team has been featuring in their blogs in recent months.

I’m going to give you a snapshot of how IT-focused Accenture people are bringing their expertise to bear on the technologies that affect all of us all as we make progress on our digital transformation journeys.

• Rich Palumbo kicked off a blog series around Accenture’s DevSecOps journey recently. He shares our plans, successes and lessons learned as we transform our application operations from legacy operations to full-stack DevSecOps product ownership. I’m excited to read the first couple of posts and it’s good to see our own organization’s approach carefully documented in his latest on “Measurable outcomes and principles.” If you’re embarking on a similar journey, you may want to visit LinkedIn to follow the series.
• Latrise Brissett has supported Global IT as Senior Director of Operations for the last 22 years and I value her opinions and professional experience on the whole topic of business operations. She’s written about how we are transforming the fundamentals of IT business operations and why it matters. The blog covers the challenges us CIOs face in meeting the needs of both internal and external customers. She highlights four areas that make a massive impact in how we get to excellence in operations.
• Sarah Dugan is my colleague at the cutting edge of making technology changes happen in our organization. She’s commented on how we empower people to use technology for value and why your tech rollout should start with the end in mind. The posts offer insight into Accenture’s own change and adoption journey and how this experience enables us to help others embrace change and transform the way people work.
• Jason Warnke is our Global Digital Experiences lead so he’s immersed in the whole area around mixed reality and next-generation digital experiences. His piece is titled: “Put on your VR headset and meet me on the Nth floor.” He talks about our growing familiarity with virtual worlds and Accenture’s plans to deliver some amazing hybrid scenarios. I think you’ll enjoy the content—and the cool graphic!
• Don Galzarano might have his head in the cloud—but there’s nothing whimsical about that. His blogs around why it’s imperative to be cloud first and why you need to change culture to make cloud a success are a must read for anyone who needs to use cloud to perform at the cutting edge.

Finally, I would like to mention another aspect of how we run IT in Accenture that is particularly close to my heart. Melissa Summers is responsible for the digital corporate services portfolio of applications and a passionate advocate of inclusion and diversity. Her blog advancing inclusion, accelerating change talks about some of the programs we’re running across the Global IT organization and how we’re always looking to do more.

That’s a quick run through some of the diverse areas of IT where we’re sharing our thoughts and stories. I hope you enjoy pursuing them further—and look out for more as we demonstrate how IT, in all its forms, is also the spice of life.
