Why Now is the Time to be a Data Scientist

Big data. Machine learning. Artificial intelligence. Automation. No longer buzzwords, they’re today’s enablers of business transformation. And data scientists are experts of business solutions.

Applying in-depth technical skills and fueled by curiosity, data scientists analyze the present—and reinvent the future. In short, we find value in data that others can’t.

As a data science manager with Accenture Applied Intelligence, my team really digs into the details of a company—the data, systems, operations and people—to define and detect business issues. We then determine the best solutions with analytics—performing data processing and cleansing, creating data sets for analysis and building statistical models to solve or optimize business operations.

Transforming industry
We work with leading companies across the globe, in almost every industry. My most unforgettable project was for one of the biggest high-tech companies in Japan.

The client had just launched a data science team, and they came to us for help getting it started. My role was to support them by teaching an end-to-end analytics process in an on-the-job style.

We researched their data availability and business issues. Then we collaborated with a logistics company to create a supply-and-demand analysis proof of concept, which showed them the potential value in analytics and in their new team.

Now’s the time to become a data scientist
This is a field that is growing every day; it offers a huge opportunity to contribute to society with the solutions you create.

A data-native mindset is key to driving disruption, and there are extraordinary opportunities available. From analyst to consultant and manager roles, as a data scientist, you’ll tap into your analytical skills and indulge your creative side. You’ll harness the intelligence of the internet of thinking (IoT) through machine learning and AI to transform the way the world does business.

And as a female data scientist, I can tell you that more women are needed in the digital space. Accenture is committed to inclusion and diversity and to achieving a 50/50 gender-equal workforce by 2025, and our leadership helps you thrive in your career.

Analyze, innovate and help businesses tackle their toughest challenges. Find an opportunity with our team.
