We Are Going Greener

Our People Drive Progress

World Environment Day is the UN's most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. It is a great time to reflect on the importance of fostering sustainable economic growth—for our business, with our clients and in our communities.

For a company that employs approximately 442,000 individuals around the world, setting a goal of reducing carbon emissions by more than 50 percent per person may seem like an impossible task. For Accenture, improving the way the world works and lives is more than just talk. It’s our business.

Reducing our carbon footprint through collaborative technology
By investing in technology and establishing a culture of digital collaboration that helps to minimize travel, we met our carbon reduction target three years early. As one of the largest global users of Skype for Business®, we averaged more than 300 million audio and 36 million video minutes per month in 2017. Not only did we help reduce travel-related carbon emissions per employee by approximately 4 percent from the previous year, we connected with more than 800 of our clients easily and securely.

Enabling client sustainability
We are working with clients to reach their sustainability goals and vision of a greener planet, too. For example, through innovative solutions, advanced analytics and the power of artificial intelligence (AI), our work contributed to a 7 percent cost savings for a major retailer, while reducing energy usage by 4 percent across thousands of stores.

Fostering sustainable communities
Much of our progress is also driven by our people’s commitment to fostering sustainable communities. For example, Accenture volunteers classified rare species of wildlife in the Peruvian Amazon by viewing thousands of images captured by a network of video cameras to measure the distribution of wildlife along the Amazon River. Through the “wisdom of crowds,” we are helping researchers identify rare species to help track and preserve wildlife that otherwise would not be possible on such a scale.

We are improving the efficiency of our operations, harnessing innovation and supporting the sustainability efforts of our clients and beyond. Learn more about how we are we are fostering a more sustainable future.
