It’s difficult for most of us to imagine not being able to speak—not having the ability to use words to express our wants and needs. Due to conditions like autism, Parkinson’s disease and dementia, people across the globe face that reality every day.
Accenture’s annual Digital World event offers a forum for our people to blend their personal passions with the work they do each day to create innovative solutions to make a difference in the world. Hili Banjo was one of 10 handpicked Accenture staff at the 2017 event who presented a pitch on a digital innovation that aims to could give a voice to those who can’t speak for themselves.
Hili’s sister is one of the voiceless. Severely autistic and nonverbal, she relies on picture cards to communicate her wants and needs.
When Hili was invited as one of the 150 forward-thinking, passionate leaders to participate in Accenture’s Digital World event, she decided to use the magic of the post-digital world to dream up a solution using artificial intelligence and facial recognition software to give her sister—and others unable to speak—a way to communicate. Hili’s challenge to us all: use our voices to speak up for those who don’t have one. Watch Hili’s pitch, which was awarded first place.
The Accenture Digital World event also gives teams the opportunity to hack, design and strategize solutions to major global issues, such as disaster relief and access to fresh water and education. Accenture’s Matt Gillings shares his insider perspective from the 2017 event on what left him “bursting with inspiration and excited about the bright future of Accenture Digital”.at Digital World 2017 in Miami.
