How We’ll Get to 100% Renewable Energy

The last few weeks have been a defining moment in the fight against climate change.

People around the world are demanding action as governments and business leaders come together to discuss solutions. The need for climate action is center stage.

And Accenture is doing its part.

Accenture’s next big leap on our climate journey
Accenture is committing to using 100 percent renewable energy across our global operations by 2023. Because electricity in our locations is one of the biggest sources of our carbon emissions, using renewable energy is an essential step in reducing our carbon footprint.

Switching to renewable forms of power that can be naturally replenished, such as solar and wind, is critical to achieving our science-based target, which aims to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions 11 percent by 2025 against our 2016 baseline, including a reduction of 65 percent of our scope 1 and 2 emissions.

What does 100% renewable energy mean for Accenture?
From the innovative work our people do every day to the partnerships we develop across the globe, we’re using our understanding of technology and its impact on people to transform society at scale, in a responsible way.

Currently, we’re about a quarter of the way to our goal. In fiscal 2018, approximately 24 percent of our energy came from renewable sources.

To meet our goal of 100 percent renewable energy, our primary focus will be on centralizing our energy purchases and negotiating power purchase agreements that focus on renewable energy.

Given our global scale, this also represents an opportunity for us to play a convening role across our ecosystem of partners and suppliers, to negotiate collective agreements with energy providers. We believe this collaborative effort is needed to address climate change.

We are committed to fostering environmental awareness and responsibility among our people, clients, suppliers and other interested parties within the context of our business and to helping those around us pursue their environmental goals.

What can you do to take climate action?
Our people are the driving force behind much of our progress.

Together, we have already reduced our per person carbon emissions by more than 50 percent. We are aligned on these shared values and are committed to doing our part to protect the planet for future generations.

We can all do our part to fight climate change. Whether it’s having conversations with friends, family and coworkers about our energy-efficient choices, turning off lights and computers when not in use or traveling “smart” by carpooling or biking when possible, our actions can make a real difference.

As a company of 492,000 individuals committed to improving the way the world works and lives, we are grateful for the opportunity to help shape societal changes such as this one, and we are striving to lead the way by conducting business responsibly for our people, our clients, our supply chain and the environment.
