Imagine being at work and being afraid to speak to your co-workers because you’re scared you might say something that will make them view – or treat – you differently. That’s what life was like for Accenture Strategy Manager Alicia Hill before she came “out of the closet.”
In a recent video, Alicia recalls what it meant for her to decide to share her sexuality with her colleagues and finally be free to truly be herself at work. Not only did it make a noticeable difference in the quality of her work output but she felt more confident and realized that she had support as well.
Alicia has this advice for people considering coming out at work:
“Don’t be afraid. Believe that people will like you for who you are and treat you the way you want to be treated.”
