If you want to seize new career opportunities or even transition to something different, you need to pave your path to success. It takes embracing every opportunity and continuously learning, growing and getting out of your comfort zone.
Thanks to the culture and breadth of opportunities at Accenture, the sky’s the limit—and I’m continuing to grow my career in new and exciting ways.
Crossing the Atlantic to join Accenture
I moved to the U.K. from Washington, D.C., embracing the perfect timing and opportunity to focus on national challenges with a global impact, such as BREXIT and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
In London, I kicked off my career as an associate manager with Accenture Strategy, focusing on go-to-market campaigns, dealing with "hot" strategy topics such as digital disruption, customer experience strategy and future workforce strategies, in which humans and machines closely work together.
I enjoyed working with local and global strategy leads and wrapping my head around the various processes and learning opportunities. And, of course, I enjoyed the Strategy “socials”—monthly drinks with the U.K. team and the Vitality 10K run with colleagues in St. James Park.
My career transition
When the opportunity arose to move to a global role, a scope that fit well with my personal experiences and ambitions, I went for it.
Although my previous work on some of the major strategy topics and projects was interesting, I yearned for a more analytical and digital-focused role. This way, I would be able to further build upon my background in business economics and digital marketing and gain a deeper understanding of the “whys” and “hows” of marketing.
In my new role as a global digital marketing lead of Accenture’s energy practice, I work with a team of digital experts on visual storytelling, targeted and personalized user experiences, paid advertisement and client-level digital reports.
I provide thought leadership and digital best practices to local energy teams and leadership around the globe and work with the corporate marketing team on search engine optimization and page personalization.
There’s never a boring day
What I enjoy the most is the diversity of the role.
One day I’m working on the segmentation and targeting for paid campaigns, while other days, I am working on innovative ways to convey our digital impact and alignment to key business goals. The work is exciting, and no two days are ever the same.
Transitioning to a global role requires flexibility. My counterparts are located in various offices around the world, which might mean getting up early to take a call with someone in Asia-Pacific or working a little later to attend a meeting with a U.S. team.
It also means most presentations and meetings happen virtually, allowing me to work from home more often. As a mother of an almost three-year-old, this work environment and flexibility is a huge bonus.
