How I Keep the Plates Spinning

People often ask how I find time to train at the gym six times a week, write a book and manage to excel in my demanding role as a Technology Consultant at Accenture. I say, it’s all about passion and discipline and making time for what’s important in your life.

For my current project, I’m responsible for the data center migration for a large bank. In a nutshell, this means moving one or more applications and other data from one location to a better one. What appeals to me about this role is that it involves one of my favorite aspects of work: problem-solving. I absolutely love helping clients solve their business problems.

My role also involves a lot of moving parts, so multitasking is a critical skill. Sometimes it can get really challenging, but I have a pool of awesome colleagues who never say no to a challenge. In fact, 400,000+ heads are definitely better than one! On a typical day, you’ll find me liaising with colleagues from across the globe in countries like Malaysia, Hong Kong and the U.S., strategizing the most efficient way to migrate all these applications to a better and more optimal environment.

My love for technology has inspired me to do more than just help clients find optimal solutions to their challenges. Since joining Accenture, I’ve been inspired to write a book about the future of technology and people. The book is set a few hundred years into the future, where technology is central to everything we do, and I analyze the impact it has on society. Although it’s a bit difficult to predict what the next hundred years will look like in terms of technology, I find that writing fiction gives me the liberty to portray the future in any way I want it to be. It’s exhilarating to push my creative boundaries and open myself up to the incredible possibilities of the future.

Another passion of mine is fitness. I’m at the gym every day of the week, except for Sunday, which I reserve as my day to recuperate and reflect. If I’m not at the gym, I’m street dancing. Health and well-being are important parts of my life, and I love to share my experiences with the people around me. At work, I’ve taken on an extra role coordinating wellness days and other team sport activities for my colleagues. This has motivated me to enroll in a course that focuses on nutrition to help me to help others solve their nutritional challenges.

Being able to juggle my work responsibilities and my personal passions requires dedication, accountability and staying true to myself. Growing up in Hong Kong, I was taught about structure, good planning and discipline. This has helped me set goals and clearly define how I’m going to achieve them. It’s also enabled me to balance work and my other passions in a way that works for me.

Having an employer like Accenture has certainly helped a great deal. The work environment and culture allows you to succeed professionally and personally. It’s rare to find a company that enables you to exercise your passions within the working environment. At Accenture, I’m proud to bring my whole self to the office.

Succeed at work and fulfill your passions when you bring your true, authentic self to work. Find an opportunity with our Accenture team today.
