Challenge Accepted: Bringing New Perspectives to Tech
By: Sandra D., Software Engineering Senior Analyst, Accenture Technology, Argentina

Sandra is a senior analyst and QA lead with the Accenture Delivery Center in Buenos Aires. She shares why she chose a career in technology, her career path over the last five years and how diversity drives innovation.

When people ask me why I chose a technology career, I tell them it’s because I saw STEM as a challenge. I love the variety of projects and roles available in tech because they give me the chance to learn new and different skills to help grow my career.

Today, my role is leading a team and providing quality assurance for the projects we deliver to our client, Avanade, which is a joint venture between Accenture and Microsoft. Accenture is the first company I’ve worked for. I joined in 2011, after I finished school in Buenos Aires with a technical degree in computing. I love working with technology, learning about different areas and building new skills. During my time here, I’ve used Java for programming, provided end-user SharePoint support and streamlined new-hire training for clients. I’ve also had the opportunity to define and manage testing processes for our deliverables.

Because of those experiences, I think my best career decision was to study computer systems. Looking back, I wouldn’t do anything differently, because my decisions brought me here. I work with innovative technologies, and the culture here allows me to set a good work-life balance.

I also think the diversity of people at Accenture fuels innovation. The insights we gain from different cultures and backgrounds help us to create, innovate, research and lead in technology. We all benefit from a culture of inclusion, learning and knowledge-sharing. That’s important, because you should be what you want to be and do what you want to do, both professionally and personally.

For example, my QA team is based in La Plata and Buenos Aires, and we serve a client based in Minnesota. It’s a challenge to work with people in different locations, but daily communication and sharing things like our countries’ holiday traditions have helped the group to gel and thrive.
