How did a teenage boy who spent hours at his father’s restaurant go on to become a cloud lead at Accenture?
While he worked in the restaurant’s kitchen and spent time with his dad to keep day-to-day issues at bay, Sharath Haikadi never put down his quest for learning new things. Growing up in Bengaluru, India, many of his regular customers at the restaurant were educated. Seeing how education can improve the quality of life, he got hooked on learning.
He turned his love for learning into a bright career in the cloud. Now he’s serving up cloud solutions to help global investment banks deliver a seamless experience to their clients.
Twenty-three years in the IT industry and I still remember how it all started. In 1989, I participated in a computer programming contest, where a friend and I built a solution around Mendeleev’s periodic table. It laid the foundation for wanting to know more about computers and technologies.
My love for automating machines inspired me to pursue engineering in instrumentation. After graduation, I joined a multinational company, where I worked for a decade learning about new technologies. But the best was yet to come.
In 2011, I joined Accenture as a senior manager. It’s been a fantastic journey of continuous learning, working on the latest technologies and collaborating with colleagues from all over the world to deliver breakthrough cloud solutions to clients. What else I could have asked for?
Fast forward to 2022. Today, I am the lead for Applied Technology and Operations for Markets (ATOM) at the Advanced Technology Centers in India and a director of delivery across the Product and Platform division. I am also a certified master data architect (MDA). My team of cloud technologists and I are transforming post-trade processing for investment banks globally. My team is setting a new industry benchmark for the efficiency and quality of post-trade processing and making our business as a data-driven business.
We work to solve real-world challenges daily. For instance, recently, my team saw a huge volume in trading for a client due to flux in the market. This volume was much more than what our platform could handle. We worked together to identify the areas to improve the scalability and embrace the power of the cloud platform.
I personally believe that the cloud has enabled me to experiment fast, fail fast and succeed faster with ease.
In my other role as the India delivery lead for a data insight platform, my team helps global companies with a ready-made cloud infrastructure to deploy their data platforms.
I am an adventure lover who enjoys scuba diving, trekking, paragliding and white-water rafting. Thanks to supportive colleagues and leaders and flexible culture at Accenture, I get time to pursue my passion and bring my best self to work. It inspires my creativity and helps me build innovative solutions for my clients.
Cloud is an exciting space and is evolving rapidly. As a cloud professional, there are immeasurable opportunities to learn and create change. Take time to define the solution for your client’s problems, and keep a close watch on everything the cloud provides. Building specializations through training and certifications in the cloud will accelerate your tech career. All you need is determination and curiosity to thrive.
