Educational. Unforgettable. Rewarding.

These are just a few words our people use to describe their Hour of Code experience.

Hour of Code is a global event with a goal to empower every student to learn coding. It started with one-hour coding tutorials and has expanded to a world of community-based efforts—and no coding experience is necessary.

Partnering with Code.org for the past five years, together, we are helping demystify computer science for young people and building skills that could start them on the road toward rewarding careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Join us December 9-15, 2019 and change the world one line of code at a time.

Why volunteer? It feels good to do good.

We asked Accenture Hour of Code volunteers to share their experience from last year’s event in one word. See how passions and professions collide to inspire the next generation of innovators.

Educational

I come from a software engineering background, so participating in Hour of Code was a perfect opportunity to get involved and help inspire and educate younger generations to be excited about STEM.

The work I do as a Technology Analyst is also very meaningful. Using the cloud as a platform for digital transformation, we’re developing and enhancing solutions to help bring affordable housing to communities across the country.

I am proud to work for a company that supports my involvement in the local community and enables me to be part of a team that shares a committed global effort to making a difference.

Unforgettable

When I was asked to lead an Hour of Code team working with children with disabilities, I excitedly agreed. I’m passionate about teaching and, as a mom to a little boy with autism, the coding activity was very close to my heart.

Volunteering in Hour of Code made me realize the power of using technology to help our community. Watching children with disabilities successfully complete their activities gave me hope for my young son who has autism, that with the right support, he can accomplish great things.

My favorite moment was when the children smiled as we handed them their certificates for completion. They were so proud of their achievement, and I am so privileged to have helped in my little way.

I always feel challenged in my technology role, but one of the main reasons I enjoy my career at Accenture is the opportunity to make an impact in my community.

Rewarding

I actively engage in our corporate citizenship activities, focusing on education. I’ve had the opportunity to help shape the successful Slovak program S[loves]CODE, aimed at improving computer science education.

I first volunteered for Hour of Code in my son’s class because the Code.org page immediately caught my attention. It’s educational, interesting and fun—a great combination for kids.

I continue volunteering for three primary reasons:

  1. To support teachers. We can bring real-life perspective on today’s technologies into the classroom.
  2. To inspire students. We inspire new pathways of thinking about the future, such as having a career at a “many-technologies” company like Accenture.
  3. To give back. It is so rewarding to see youthful energy and a sparkle in kids’ eyes as they discover new ways of creatively expressing themselves.

A talent multiplier

Hour of Code is about more than volunteering time. It’s an opportunity to share your talents while using leading-edge technologies and strategies to help improve the way the world works and lives.

Be recognized for the talents you bring and the difference you make.
