Businesses of all sizes need to successfully scale artificial intelligence (AI) to stay competitive and thrive into the future.
For our recent AI: Built to scale report, we polled 1,500 C-suite executives from global organizations across 16 industries to determine the extent to which AI enables their business strategy, top characteristics required to scale AI and the financial results when it’s done successfully.
The numbers are enlightening:
- 84% of executives say they won’t achieve growth objectives without scaling AI.
- 75% believe they risk going out of business in five years if they don’t scale AI.
- 76% acknowledge they know how to pilot, but struggle to scale AI across the business.
Organizations know the “why” of AI, but the “how?” That’s where applied intelligence professionals come in. Leaders know scaling AI for their business is imperative, and most also acknowledge that they need help doing it.
AI is a team-based effort
The effort of scaling AI calls for embedding multidisciplinary teams throughout the organization—teams with clear sponsorship from the top, ensuring alignment with the C-suite vision.
For what we call “Strategic Scalers,” which is where an estimated 15-20 percent of companies fall, these teams are most often headed by the Chief AI, Data or Analytics Officer. They’re comprised of data scientists; data modelers; machine learning, data and AI engineers; visualization experts; data quality, training and communications and other specialists.
Embedding these professionals across the organization is not only a powerful signal about the strategic intent of the scaling effort; it also enables faster culture and behavior changes.
And the need for these multidisciplinary teams creates a world of AI career opportunities.
