Looking to leap to the next step in your career, but it’s been a while since you’ve gone through the interview process?

You’re probably full of emotions and plenty of questions.

You may be wondering, am I right for this job? Are my skills transferable? What can I do to really stand out in this interview?

Interviewing doesn’t have to be anxiety-inducing. With the right attitude and preparation, you’ll let your best self shine.

Recruiters have one goal

All recruiters have their own style of interviewing, but the goal is the same.

We’re looking to connect exceptional people to extraordinary opportunities. We look for candidates who are excited about the prospect of working for a phenomenal company like Accenture.

So, no matter how the interview is conducted, most important is to be yourself. Remember who you are, what you’re looking for and what’s important to you. It’s critical that you articulate your skills, experience and be confident to talk about you.

After all, the interview isn’t just about what the recruiter is looking for or whether you’re the best fit for the position. It’s also about what you are looking for and whether the company and job are right for you.

Four ways to brush-up your interview skills:

  1. Take part in mock interviews. Find someone to conduct a practice interview. Not only will this help to boost your confidence; it will help you articulate your strengths. While interviews should be a conversation and not a script, it’s not always natural—or easy—to talk about yourself.
  2. Really read the job description. Take the time to prepare for the interview and thoroughly read the job description. It always contains the key skills the hiring team is looking for. Do you have most of these skills? Does the description excite you? Is this the job for you?
  3. Research the company. While we are looking for the right fit, you should be, too. From the transformational work to our unparalleled training and development opportunities, Accenture has so much to offer! Gaining a real understanding of our company, its values, learning and growth opportunities and the culture should get you excited to be part of the team.
  4. Ask questions. Show that you are interested in the company and the job you’re applying for by asking questions. Not only will this help you learn more about us; it also helps us to learn more about you.

And don’t forget to update your resume.

Be sure to include updates that are relevant to the current marketplace and to the job you’re pursuing. This may require you to look at your skills a bit differently. You also may want to simplify your resume to capture just the skills relevant to the position. And it’s always a good idea to have someone review your resume for fluidity and errors or formatting issues.

You may have been out of the interview game for some time, but with the right preparation, your confidence will shine through. It’s up to you to be authentic, confident and share your best self.
