“Hello, my name is …” Making a good first impression on LinkedIn
By: Accenture Recruitment

Since the dawn of the digital age, few tools have proven to be as effective as LinkedIn when it comes to building and sustaining meaningful professional relationships. But with more than 400 million users on LinkedIn, how can you forge a personal connection? Ensuring that your profile is 100% complete, has relevant and detailed work experience and has a catchy headline is first step. Building a strong network is the next.

Whether you’re actively looking for a new job or are simply preparing for future opportunities, here are a few tips from our recruiters on how to make a great first impression when sending out requests to connect on LinkedIn.

  1. Let them know why you’re contacting them. (Interested in an open role? Wanted to chat about a post they shared?)
  2. Mention any contacts or friends you have in common.
  3. Share a very brief bio with them to give them some context.
  4. Be thoughtful and concise; a well-written invitation can demonstrate your willingness to go above and beyond.

Do you have any helpful tips on how to make a great impression on LinkedIn? Share them with us in the comment section below.

Dear Hiring Manager This letter is to confirm my interest in your advertised position of Strategic Sourcing Manager. Summarized below are my credentials for your consideration. I have spent more than 25 years driving growth, managing risk and creating value in end-to-end strategic sourcing and supplier selection, as well as, category management, contracts drafting, editing and management; procurement operations and overall supply chain management. By way of optimizing value, I have implemented the 7-step sourcing process to reach solutions that fulfilled project requirements. In these efforts, I had consistently led and initiated the sourcing processes and reached out to stakeholders and suppliers alike to fashion collaborative solutions. I have been able to avoid waste and minimize risk, both in the supplier selection processes and in contract execution. I have also leaned upon RFx sourcing processes to effectuate rigidity in the end-to-end supplier selection process, and led SaaS, IaaS and PaaS solutions, as well as business / professional services requirements. These efforts have been useful and helpful in driving clarity in the negotiated price points, delivery timelines and evaluating continuous supplier performance and KPI assessments. To this end, I have been successful at leading and contributing to the successes of the sourcing and contracts negotiations, in development forward-looking processes, and negotiating outcomes that were clear, rewarding.
