HCM cloud: HR’s cornerstone in a digital world

In today’s ever-changing corporate world, the HR function must consistently anticipate and respond to the demands of a high-performing mobile workforce. To become a strategic leader of talent, HR needs to ensure employees can quickly and efficiently access data on-the-go, anywhere and at any time. HR is also under pressure to deliver greater efficiency through self-service. Soon, Human Capital Management (HCM) cloud solution will become the norm rather than a ‘nice to have’ option.

A recent study from IDC, for example, found that 13 percent of companies around the world are expected to adopt HCM cloud solutions from 2017 to 2021. It also found that the Asia-Pacific region is a key driver of such growth.

Key benefits of HCM cloud solutions

More efficiency and productivity and improved talent management are among the benefits of deploying HCM cloud solutions:

  • Agile implementation. With its ability to seamlessly integrate with core HR systems, HCM cloud solutions are generally quick to roll out, with readily available and easily configurable out-of-the-box functionalities.
  • Accessing HR functionalities ‘on the go’. Through secured portals, users can easily access personal HR data and carry out administrative tasks such as viewing employee records, payroll and holiday requests, on mobile or desktop devices from virtually any location.
  • Improved HR outcomes. HCM cloud solutions provide a platform for HR Analytics and its labour-saving self-service opportunities enables HR to increase the value it delivers to the organisation.
This flowchart shows a sample for moving from the blueprint to the implementation phase of an HR solution. Steps include solution planning, iterative prototyping, integration testing, deployment and service delivery.

Figure 1. Sample High-Level Implementation Roadmap

Using a tailored cloud methodology implementation roadmap, organisations can develop a solution that meets their specific business needs. The first step is a process of iterative prototyping, which allows organisations to fine-tune and then leverage a solution that’s completely right for them, from blueprint through to implementation.
