As a software engineer at Accenture, I design database fields in data mart, create SQL scripts for Oracle data mart tables, create test scripts and prepare data for user acceptance testing.
I first heard about Accenture’s Emerging Technologist Development Program (ETDP) when I was a student at Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Information Technology, graduating with a degree in Business Intelligence & Analytics. I attended a seminar about the program and was encouraged to register.
I’m glad I joined because it provided me great learning opportunities, including on-demand lessons and on-the-job training, as well as a chance to apply the skills I developed in university. I also learnt a lot from my day-to-day experiences with my peers. All of these helped me easily adapt to Accenture’s working environment.
The interview process was simple and only took a month. My first interview was digital, the second was face-to-face. I was very pleased with the senior manager who conducted the interview because he had a positive and friendly aura, which made me comfortable.
Since joining Accenture, I’ve learnt to effectively collaborate with colleagues to deliver better solutions for our clients and manage my time better.
My typical workday includes team meetings, responding to e-mails and enjoying a short afternoon tea break. It’s fun to go to work because I learn new things every day. There are also various avenues for career growth. We even get to travel for trainings and projects, which I find exciting.
