Shawn Thian

Business & Integration Architecture Senior Analyst

"I am not afraid of failure, but I am afraid of succeeding at things in life that do not really matter."

What I do

My role as a business and integration architecture analyst lets me keep my creative thinking cap on, as I’m challenged to come up with innovative solutions aimed at helping the client solve problems and keeping it ahead of its competition.

I would first begin with a thorough analysis of relevant data in order to gain a deep understanding of the client’s organisational needs, processes, how they apply technology, and so on. Then, with these insights, I would brainstorm ideas with my colleagues, and together we will come up with innovative solutions for our clients.

What’s great about Accenture is that, given its sheer size, we have a wealth of brilliant individuals with a wide variety of expertise that we can tap upon to validate our ideas, helping us to deliver maximum value for our client as One Accenture.

A day in my life

A typical day will involve me first checking emails and planning my tasks for the day. After which, I would touch base with my colleagues from different teams.

I work with a team in Manila, and my day would include discussions with them on the agenda pointers for our weekly meeting with the client. Then, depending on what I am working on, I would connect with my colleagues to talk about the client’s requirements and business needs, followed by a brainstorming session to come up with innovative solutions to address them. We then check in with our team lead to update him on our progress and fine-tune our ideas based on his feedback.

I am also part of the Technology Analyst Program (TAP) at Accenture. TAP equips technology analysts like me with training and job rotation opportunities within Accenture. It also provides a platform for us to connect with each other, so that we can share interests, experiences of working in different industries and client projects. What makes my experience in TAP even more interesting and unique, is that I get to be involved in shaping the online experience for our technology analyst community across Southeast Asia.

What I’ve enjoyed so far during my time here at Accenture is that my work is never the same. I am given the space to innovate and explore new ideas when solving real world issues for clients. At Accenture, I am spoilt for choice on the myriad of technological solutions that I can leverage on to deliver value for the client.

My advice

Technology is fast changing, and it can be difficult to keep pace. But keeping an open mind and being intellectually curious helps you to not only push boundaries and develop new innovative solutions but also propels your understanding and growth in the job. Most importantly, you have to enjoy learning.

For me, coming into Accenture without a Tech background seemed daunting at first. However, as I spend my free time reading up on things I was not familiar with, it helped me to be more proficient in my work.
