"We deployed a One Accenture team with multidisciplinary skills to pull off data and AI transformation at Siam Commercial Bank."
How I put change in motion
As a Managing Director - Applied Intelligence, I lead a team of artificial intelligence (AI) and data strategists, data scientists, AI/machine learning and data engineers and augmented insights specialists. My team and I work with the rest of Accenture to help our clients achieve business results via data-driven transformation across industries and functions, and to embed data and AI in everything we do.
The aspect of my job I love most is being at the forefront of learning and leveraging the most disruptive and intelligent technology to-date—such as AI—to help organizations solve their biggest business challenges. The big plus is the ability to do so with highly talented people at Accenture.
I was the overall sponsor for the project when one of Thailand’s largest banks, Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), chose to collaborate with Accenture on its path to data-driven transformation. My responsibilities included three main areas: establishing and maintaining strong relationships with C-suite executives to get their buy-in of our recommendations and work; creating a positive, conducive environment in which our team could work and excel; and providing subject matter expertise to the working team, personally or by connecting them to the global Accenture network.
We recognized the need for a multidisciplinary team for the very onset; nearly every Accenture business was involved in the transformation. We first helped develop a data and analytics roadmap, with specific target outcomes across line of business and functions, and a clear investment and business case. We then helped the client understand the need for multidisciplinary skills and capabilities to pull off a data and AI transformation, and how our team was positioned to help them, in addition to leveraging our data and AI assets, tools and our global and local experiences and expertise.
My typical day includes reviewing project deliverables or proposals, attending key meetings, communicating with our ecosystem partners, leaders and team members and collaborating with people and teams in different parts of Accenture.
A large part of the day is spent solving pressing issues, and I make it a point to work in quality “me” time for serious thinking and planning ahead.
“The ability to marry the art of business with the science of data is vital for driving impact.”
The ability to marry the art of business with the science of data is vital to being able to drive impact. It is important not just to develop technical expertise in data and AI (the science), but also industry and functional skills, in addition to C-suite storytelling and strategic thinking skills to inspire, persuade or convince the client (the art).
Data and AI is very fast changing, but don’t be intimated by it. The best way to start is by really digging into the big-picture view of what data and AI is and understanding the different roles and skillsets required to value add in this space, before zeroing in on a particular field or area of interest.
