My five-year Accenture career has been interesting and challenging so far. If I could describe who I am at work in one phrase, I would be “the one who protects your data in IT systems.”
Keeping Singaporeans safe through cybersecurity is one of my main roles at Accenture. As a solution architect for a nationwide authentication system project, I oversee the design of its systems to make sure our digital identification will not be compromised, and no one can see our private data. In this project, I’m the team lead for security. I work with different teams, such as applications and infrastructure, to prevent data breaches from happening. It takes time to create the most optimum architecture set, but completing the project comes with a rewarding feeling.
As a security manager for digital identity, I help my clients establish and implement solutions to block hackers from getting into their IT systems. Imagine if everyone can access anyone’s data anytime. Scary world, isn’t it? That’s what we are here for—to keep our information safe and prevent it from getting into the hands of the wrong people.
Being part of a global company, our team of 80 is a good mix of people with different backgrounds, experiences and races. We are all hands on with the project. Everyone is professional, but we are still free to be who we truly are. We just express our personality and we are open to talk about our projects. We are not afraid to make mistakes because we also learn together—we are stronger not in spite of but because of our diversity.
I remember a few years back when I was still looking for a job, I was keen to join Accenture because it’s a global leader in IT. I knew this meant that the breadth of projects is expansive. I’m glad I’m now part of it because the opportunity I was looking for—working on different types of projects in different scales—materialized.
