Stepping up to the next wave of change
December 17, 2020
As a consultant from Accenture’s Strategy and Consulting practice, I partner with our clients to transform the way they work and operate, enabling them to create and embrace change across their people, process, and technology and be ready for the next frontier in their industry.
I embarked on my journey in Accenture after graduating from the National University of Singapore Business School. As an aspiring management consultant, Accenture was the best place to jump-start my career. I became surrounded by like-minded people who loved to overcome challenges and solve problems in a fast-paced environment. Thus far, my Accenture story has been filled with chapters of personal and professional growth.
At the beginning, I imagined myself working on projects related to my field of study, which was finance and marketing. However, I found myself engaging with a diverse clientele across different industries, before focusing primarily on Singapore’s government agencies. As a consultant, I had to hit the ground running in every project and every role, and I strove to learn each client’s nature of business by keeping my finger on the pulse of the latest industry and technology trends. By being adaptable, flexible and curious, I thrived in various cross-functional roles.
My work is dynamic. It presents a different challenge every day. On a typical workday, I engage in a mix of client conversations, meetings and workshops as well as internal team discussions and working sessions. What I do requires me to constantly step out of my comfort zone, think differently and discover growth possibilities for myself, my team and our clients.
I became adept at shaping and executing transformation as a business strategist. I worked alongside my clients in reengineering and redesigning workflows and business processes. Gradually, I gained a deeper appreciation of technology across functional design, technical onboarding and data architecture. In due time, I became an integrated consultant, constantly serving as the key pivot in bringing together the world of business and technology, something which I consider one of the turning points of my career.
It is a privilege to do work that matters. I derive a strong sense of fulfillment from knowing that I can positively impact the lives of Singaporeans as I work with my teammates in bringing our clients’ transformation vision to life.
My teammates’ talent and ingenuity make the change that we do possible. I have always been able to count on my teammates to deliver their best work and contribute to our culture of excellence. Moreover, Accenture is a connected firm globally. This means different types of knowledge and expertise are never out of reach as I can tap colleagues from all over the world to share their know-how. I also found mentors who guided and coached me in my journey to becoming a better professional and person.

The recent Singapore Circuit Breaker also created unexpected opportunities for me as a husband and a new father. I found more time to spend with my wife and our baby girl, whose first smile and laughter I was able to witness! I also learned the truth behind the saying that “it takes a village to raise a child.” I had taken an extended paternity leave that enabled me to transition smoothly into my new life as a father. The support from my leads and teammates enabled me to find the flexibility I needed to balance work and family priorities.
My advice to anyone wishing to join Accenture? Seize the opportunity to do so with an open heart. Growth opportunities within the company are limitless, and with the right attitude and mindset, anything is possible.
