She rises: Empowering women to thrive in tech

<<< End >>>

At Accenture, we empower women in technology to define success—their way. How? Our inclusive and diverse workplace culture enables them to thrive. Take it from our female colleagues here in Accenture Thailand.

We recently sat down with Luksamon Phanpermpoon, Sawanet Vongpan and Thanika Painruttanasukho who took the hotseat in the “Women in Tech” Facebook Live session hosted by Accenture Thailand. Check out their unique experiences and how they found their way to Accenture despite coming from different backgrounds.

What I do:

Joining a tech consulting company like Accenture was a natural career progression given my academic background. I graduated with a computer science and master’s degree in business administration (MBA). My work revolves around data analytics and governance—from building data lakes to moving data to the cloud and more.

Best part of my work:

I enjoy being challenged in the work I do each day. In addition, Accenture provides us with great benefits. For instance, we have a flexible work program. Depending on the project agreement and each person's condition, we can work three days a week or every day but less than 8 hours a day. As a mother of two daughters, this program helps me a lot to better manage my professional and personal life. I can spend more time with my family while still being able to contribute meaningful work for the client. Accenture also provides parental benefits, including maternity and paternity leaves, to support its people at all stages of their lives. This is part of the company's commitment, which I think is very important to everyone, especially for working mothers like me.

My advice:

You don't have to worry about your degree or which faculty you graduated from because technology and tools keep changing. We need to learn new things all the time. So, if you have the right attitude, you are the right fit for Accenture.

What I do:

As a management consultant, it is my responsibility to understand our client’s needs. My team analyzes and discusses insights with the technology team to design, build or customize solutions that bring our clients’ vision to life. We function like a bridge that connects business and technology. Working at Accenture has been a dream come true. Here, I have opportunities to work with big businesses in Thailand.

Best part of my work:

I appreciate how I can freely voice my opinions. I also love that I feel comfortable seeking the advice or support of my teammates and leads, which speaks a lot to our professional support system. More importantly, my mentors have given me great pieces of advice that have been helpful in my career growth. Another thing I like about Accenture is that we have a clear career progression in management consulting. If you’re a new grad, you’ll begin as an analyst and move up until you become a managing director. We have well-defined guidelines on what you need to do to be promoted. We also have career counselors who act as mentors and guide our journey. We focus on outcomes and teamwork, so everyone can succeed regardless of gender.

My advice:

People who didn’t study tech-related fields might think that they’re not a good fit for Accenture. However, I’m someone who didn't graduate with a technology degree myself. If you have the specific knowledge that we need and you are keen to learn, then you can join us.

What I do:

I’m a new grad with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. Many people are curious why I didn't work in the manufacturing industry since it’s more aligned to my degree. However, I’ve always been interested in technology. Doing self-study and enrolling in some technology courses at my university, I learned how to code. Now working as a backend developer, I collaborate with different teams to provide technical advice on optimal solutions or efficient technology. Once the application designer completes their job, I go ahead and build and implement the application. I also test the application to see if there is any issue, bugs or coding defect.

Best part of my work:

I love how Accenture enables me to constantly grow with new learning experiences. Accenture provides various training for hot tech skills in the market like cloud computing. We also have classes for soft skills such as storytelling, which helps me a lot in collaborating with my teammates. As a fresh grad, these learning opportunities enable me to see my career path more clearly. It helps me discover what I want to do in the future or which role I want to pursue. Additionally, Accenture also has an inclusive culture where everyone is treated equally. No matter who you are, people will listen to your thoughts, ideas and concerns.

My advice:

Be open to everything that helps you grow and improve. Sometimes, the project manager will assign some work that you have never done before. But in the end, you will find answers if you search for them yourself and work with the team. I also want to emphasize the importance of communication and teamwork. As a developer, you’ll work with different people on a project. So, you need to find a way to translate technical terms to everyday language for better collaboration.
