Jessica found new perspectives through mentoring

<<< End >>>

When I joined Accenture two years ago, I was assigned to a career counselor. I was intrigued by that idea—and now, what started as a professional counselor-counselee relationship blossomed into a mentorship that I treasure.

My mentor helps me see things in a different perspective, and helped uncover potential in me. I’ve also realized that mentoring is not a one-way relationship. The learning and growing goes both ways, and that has inspired me to take up the role as a mentor despite my young age

One of my top strengths as a Maximiser is to stimulate personal and group excellence. I use this in my mentoring to help my mentees discover their strengths and be the best version of themselves. For me, it is a profound feeling to impart skills to someone who previously never had any exposure to said skills.

Jessica and her team from Consulting Analyst Program (CAP) Youth Initiative mentors underprivileged youths virtually

<<< End >>>

I’m currently involved in mentoring the youth with ProjectEd. The organization supports underprivileged communities to have accessible education and training, helping young people realize their full potential. This is part of our Consulting Analyst Program (CAP) Youth Initiative where we collaborate with a non-government organization that delivers positive social impacts through inspiring, growing and upskilling young talents in Malaysia.

During our virtual workshops, we were able to share our knowledge and trained the enthusiastic university students and young graduates from all over Malaysia. The workshop, fully facilitated by CAP analysts, enabled the students to have a first experience of storytelling and problem-solving through design thinking—skills we regularly use here in Accenture.

I also got to spend time guiding five participants more closely. Together, we looked at their challenges and helped them structure their thoughts to solve the case study presented. It was satisfying to see these promising young leaders mesmerized at different ways you can break down a problem in order to solve it, and how narratives play a crucial role in delivering information to your audience. Many of them reached out to us individually to help them kick-start their own careers. I can definitely say this has been one of my best professional highlights this year.

I appreciate how my career here at Accenture allows me to grow holistically. As I’m being mentored, I’m also able to mentor others. In my journey here, I’ve discovered that it is never too early to be a mentor.
