Hi, my name is Shaun, and I was a Business Analyst intern working under the Technology team. Before joining, I had just finished my first year of university, and had heard a lot about Accenture; so I was pretty curious about how it was like working in a consulting firm. One thing led to another, I signed up for their internship program.
It was an exciting time to say the least. I looked forward to new colleagues, new mentors, and new opportunities to hone skills that will take me a long way forward.
As an intern, I assisted the team in creating test scripts, gathered user requirements and conducted User Acceptance Testing (UAT) sessions. I was also involved in the documentation of design specifications and writing Gherkin test steps.
Each morning, our team will kick off the day with what we like to call a “stand-up” meeting. It’s a time where we updated each other with work done and work to be done for the day. It was also a great chance to iron out any issues to our scrum master. Without a doubt, these meetings helped the team work more efficiently and stay on track with the timeline.
I like that Accenture is actively looking to bring out the best in its employees. Even as an intern, I was given the opportunity to lead a UAT, and this experience really showed how important this role was, and I could see first-hand how everything I did could drive the progress of the project. This opportunity really helped inspire me to do my best work and strive to make a difference.
There’s always one element in Accenture that’s a big part of why my time here has been (and still is!) so enjoyable. The people. From helpful colleagues to perceptive superiors, I was really made to feel like one of the family.
Right off the bat, because I joined the project when it had already progressed halfway, my Project Manager meticulously took the time to bring me up to speed with a thorough introduction of the project. Plus, the Business Analyst whom I was assigned to work with was patient and showed me the ropes, and constantly checked in with me on my growth and progress.
And there was the team. They come from different walks of life, but we had little differences as we formed strong bonds through our time together. Business Analysts, Software Developers, UI/UX Designers – it’s amazing to see how people with different expertise can come together to support each other, and I love how the culture here encourages us to ask each other for help when we need it. It is this cohesiveness that really helps us surmount the challenges that come our way and allow us to swiftly work towards our objectives.

With the pandemic keeping everyone at home, it was indeed strange not to be able to get my caffeine hit from the canteen, or simply spin my chair around to talk to colleagues. But that wasn’t a problem for my team. With Microsoft Teams and WhatsApp, we constantly motivated each other, keeping spirits and work quality high. And it wasn’t all work and no play. We even came up with this fun activity called “Gameshow”, where we got to have a few laughs and learn more about our fellow members, both onshore and offshore.
So factor all that in, I can confidently say that this internship has given me both the soft and hard skills to go far in my next challenge. The teammates and the culture that inspire me to do my utmost, the experiences and knowledge that I’ve accrued – all these played a part.
I’ve picked up new skills like SQL, and experienced an in-depth role in client management, which allowed me to work on my communication skills. Of course, it helps when my new colleagues are there to support and keep me on my feet during my time here.
I’d definitely recommend anyone who is looking for an internship experience that offers valuable experiences to consider Accenture. It helped me gain confidence in my career path, and I’m sure it can do the same for you too.
