A leaping head start

I’m a Technical Architect based in Malaysia, and I work with industry experts to deliver strong IT solutions to clients. A typical day in my role sees me engaging in conversations with clients, internal teams and vendors on my projects. This ranges from requirement gathering sessions, design walkthroughs, impact assessment reviews, and presentation of technology solutions to the clients too.

As a fresh graduate, I appreciate how Accenture values every employee and grows them. The initiatives in place for analysts really helped me find my place here by connecting me to a community of like-minded peers. One of such initiatives is an exciting six-day training session for all tech analysts. My highlight from this was meeting some wonderful people across Southeast Asia and we had fun coming up with the most engaging way to present a given tech trend. Technology is growing and changing so fast, and I really appreciate that the organisation is focused on ensuring that we stay in tune with the latest tech, helping us grow in our knowledge and skills tremendously.

I also love that the people at Accenture are truly human at heart. The leaders I work with have an open-door policy, and I know that I am free to voice my concerns. This really gives me a sense of ownership and accountability, and it makes me feel that whatever position you’re in, you are able to make a significant change.

My two cents? Keep your eyes peeled and you’ll see that there are always learning opportunities around you at Accenture. Also, do focus on building relationships as collaboration is key here. You can start by being the solution to people’s problems. And never pass up a chance to smile and greet not just your boss and peers, but also the janitors and receptionist as well. Don’t be so focused on getting ahead – treating people with humanity and integrity is most important.

Supporting life’s biggest moment

I’m a Tech Consultant based in Indonesia and my work largely revolves around SAP implementation and support, with a focus in Plant Maintenance and Project System modules. In my role, I build valuable partnerships with clients and leverage on technology to elevate their business. My most memorable project at Accenture is also my first one here. On my second day of work, I flew over 3,000 miles away from home to join a project team who was stationed in a remote area, working for one of the biggest mining companies in the world. The experience was like no other. Apart from working with a great team who was like family to me, we were also working amidst the highland mountains and cloud forest, and the view outside my window was of a river and a waterfall. It was incredible!

One of the things I love about working at Accenture, is how the organisation is also very centred on helping employees find a balance between work and life by organizing community events for us. We could also invite our friends and family to some of these events, and one of such was the painting classes my husband and I took, which we enjoyed very much.

When I joined Accenture, I never imagined myself growing my career here, and at the same time, “grow” in life too – I got married and had a baby! All through my time here, I’m very thankful for all the support I’ve been getting as a woman, and as a new mum. Apart from the help I get from my family, my team in Accenture has been very supportive as well. I appreciate the flexible hours I have during and after my pregnancy. I got to manage the time between work and taking care of myself for a smoother pregnancy. Ultimately, I had the chance to spend more time with family, and to see my baby growing up too, and that was thanks to the extended maternity leave. And when I went back to work, I felt I was given room to get back into the swing of things. I’m glad to also have women colleagues and leaders who are so understanding about this transition into a new phase in life. I am also inspired to be ready to provide support or advice to new mums like me.

“Tech-ing” on multiple roles

I’m an Application Lead for one of Accenture’s clients and I’m based in Singapore. My role includes working on both the technical aspects of the product and the functional side of the project as well. A typical day-in-my-life, sees me interacting with the developers, technical leads and the product owners, which provides me opportunities to understand their different perspectives and bring to life solutions that help clients to deliver their long-term strategic objectives.

I’m also involved with several workplace initiatives, like leading Inclusivity & Diversity efforts and being a mental wellness advocate. I truly believe that when people feel a sense of belonging and are valued for their unique contributions, perspectives, and circumstances, they are more likely to advance and feel empowered to innovate.

During my time at Accenture, I also welcomed my baby girl into my life. Maternity is a key milestone for me in life, and I really appreciated how my family, as well as my leaders and team at Accenture supported me and helped me overcome the challenges I faced when juggling between commitments and responsibilities both professionally and personally. I relished the extended maternity leave we have so I can focus on my child, which was helpful amidst the pandemic. As a result, I enjoyed a smoother return to the workplace. With the organisation’s focus on hiring, retaining, and advancing women at all levels, it is clear that they want to help mothers pursue their career goals while raising a family – something which I personally really appreciate as well.

My advice to mums or mums-to-be hoping to explore a career in tech or at Accenture, is to find a calling that fills you with purpose – particularly one that you can play a part in making the world a better place to live in, for our children and every generation beyond.

Caring for you, so you can care for your loved ones

I’m the Delivery Lead for various implementation projects and I’m based in Thailand. I lead teams to provide the best solutions for our clients through the use of technology. For me, being a Delivery Lead is like being a lead pilot who responsible for not only taking the plane to the destination safely and on time, but to also ensure the wellbeing of your passengers and crew members. During critical situations, I will gather all available information to understand the circumstances and drive collaboration among all members. We will brainstorm for solutions, organise work among the teams, and make timely decision to ensure that we can resolve the situation arrive at our destination. So far, journeys on my “plane” have been great, working alongside very capable crew members and nice passengers. More importantly, we always get to our destinations together. For me, every project I work on is always a learning experience. While each of them may have their own set of challenges, what gets me going and excited is the impact we make together as a team through the work we do.

I’ve always felt that the people, culture and leadership in Accenture are there to not only guide me in my career and help me be the best to reach my goals, but they also support me in ways beyond work. Back when my dad was going through an operation, I was the delivery lead for a major project for one of Accenture’s key accounts. I spoke with my project leadership and country Managing Director about the situation and without hesitation, they immediately encouraged me to take time off to be with my family. I took a 3-month leave of absence to attend to my family and graciously, my team covered for me so I could focus on family matters. These experiences really helped me appreciate the way Accenture allows our people to take care of their personal needs. I’m impressed with how flexible the company is, and how supportive our leadership and teams are for us to do so.

Ultimately, working in Accenture makes me feel like I don’t need to juggle between family and work. There are policies and initiatives in place here to support you in what matters most to you, but professionally, and personally. My advice is to be clear of your priorities, and plan your work and time from there. So long as you are clear of your priorities and act on it, the company and our people will respect you for the person you are and the person you want to be.
