Family first: How Codey thrives as a father at Accenture
November 29, 2019
Being a working parent comes with its own set of challenges. You have all the same responsibilities at work, but your priorities go beyond just whether your next client meeting goes smoothly. Parenthood demands time, effort and resources. Thankfully, Accenture offers time and movement flexibility so that working parents can manage their schedules and lead their ideal lives.
We recently met up with Codey, the Center Manager at the Resources Innovation Hub at South Beach Tower, Singapore, to understand how he makes the best of this workplace setup.
Codey tackles complex digital challenges and builds innovative prototypes for our clients. As our local go-to person, he patiently teaches his interns about the ins and outs of any innovative demo. His deep knowledge and expertise make him a pillar of support for his colleagues.
At home, he also holds the fort — but this time for his wife and adorable 11-month-old son. Codey takes great measures to ensure he shares equal responsibility for caring for his family. He knows it’s tough to balance both work and fulfilling family life. However, being in the right environment empowered him to create sustainability on both ends. "It’s hard to step out of the house when your son looks at you with puppy dog eyes," he muses. "Having a routine both at home and at work, such as having fixed times for standing meetings, helps with time management."
Codey ensures that the Resources Innovation Hub remains a well-oiled machine while he spends quality time nurturing his son’s growth. At one point, he even brought his son to work the same day he needed to do an impromptu internal presentation! "This was an internal presentation for Rachel Ooi, Managing Director for Resources Industry X.O, for orientation purposes. I originally planned to work from home, but last-minute changes required me to be there." His team fully supported him, allowing him to conduct the presentation smoothly without worrying about the welfare of his son.“Work always needs to be done,” he continues, "but there is trust and flexibility at the Hub. It’s what makes it a supportive and understanding environment."
Kudos to the team in the Resources Innovation Hub, and thank you for all your hard work, Codey! We look forward to more exciting adventures at the Innovation Center with you and your son.
