Bhupendra Warathe (Bhupen) is a managing director in Accenture. He leads the Banking & Cloud practice in Technology Services in the market units of Asia Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East. In his role, he is focused on helping C-suite executives from the banking industry to develop strategies for digital transformation and drive cloud adoption for continuous innovation and business growth.
Bhupen has more than three decades of industry experience in banking and IT especially in, Corporate, Institutional and Retail Banking client segments in Standard Chartered and Deutsche Bank. His experience includes large-scale business transformations, mergers and acquisitions, digital journeys, and global operations and IT delivery. He has published articles in the areas of payments, trade finance, and digital transformations and is a regular speaker at key industry, business and partner conferences.
In his last role as Chief Technology Officer, Cloud Transformation for Standard Chartered Bank, Bhupen was responsible for cloud adoption for all business units at a global level. His responsibilities included developing a cloud strategy, engaging cloud service providers and their services, migrating/developing applications, and fostering a culture of innovation and digitization. Prior to the Cloud role, he was Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) business unit – covering IT for Corporate, Transaction Banking and Financial Markets for the bank.
Before joining Standard Chartered, Bhupen was Global Head of Trade Finance Technology at Deutsche Bank and held various IT leadership positions.
Bhupen was a member of the SWIFT advisory committee which sets standards for inter-banking messaging for the industry. Bhupen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and a Master's degree in Digital Communication Engineering from Amravati University, India and the National Institute of Technology, India respectively.
Outside of work, he has an avid passion for endurance running and hiking, including taking part in marathons. He is married with two children and currently lives in Singapore.
