"There is really something for everyone at Accenture and that is just amazing! Be selective in your choosing and prioritize opportunities that support the life you are trying to create for yourself."

What I do

I started at Accenture in Summer 2018. I joined the Delivery Excellence department, a department that targets experienced project & program managers. I am now working as an Onshore Service Introduction Lead at one of our largest Swedish retail Customers. What I do for our client in simple words is to support with transitioning project deliveries to their operations unit. Outside of the client work frame, I am a part of an amazing Accenture team that coordinates the Women In Tech Event, the largest conference for Women In Tech in the Nordic Region.

A day in my life

My day usually starts with our daily stand-ups. Our team is spread across the world and this connect is a good opportunity for us to keep in touch and ask for support when needed. I work with various projects & releases at the same time, so depending on which phase each project is in, I would either be putting together our service transition time plan, facilitating risk management meetings, looking into our over-all readiness or keeping our client up-to-date through regular status reporting. At my current assignment, there is a whole Accenture body, so you don’t feel stranded on your own as a consultant. But you also get to work closely with the client as well as collaborate with other consulting companies. This has been very good for me personally because not only do you feel you are a part of an Accenture team, but you also get a lot of exposure to external parties and their different ways of working. Outside of the client work frame and depending on the time of the year, I would either be working with our Women in Tech Coordinating Activities or taking part in some of the various Accenture events. Throughout my time at Accenture, I took part in recruiting events, corporate citizenship volunteering opportunities, networking events, sports events, game nights, and pride parades. There is really something for everyone and that is just amazing!

My advice

As a project manager they teach us to regularly check-in on our business case, to make sure it stays relevant. I think this checking-in exercise extends to more than to a project business case. My advice is to make sure to check-in with yourself on a regular basis and to listen to it. If you find yourself physically and emotionally drained, it is time for you to take a break. If you are not happy with the way things are going or want to try something new, speak-up and make sure you are being listened to. And most importantly, for the overthinkers like myself, it is okay if you don’t have everything figured out and you don’t know where you want to be 5 or 10 years from now. Your life is now, remind yourself to constantly live it. Try out different things and eventually you’ll find what you like.
