My path
Back in Turkey where I am from, I worked at an international NGO that aims to serve and protect migrants, refugees and displaced people, operating as a resettlement support center in Istanbul. I moved to Portugal from Turkey a few years ago and I am currently working on my master’s thesis on integration challenges of Syrian refugee families resettled in Portugal. While attending classes during my first few months here, I discovered that in Lisbon there were a lot of job opportunities for people like myself who did not speak Portuguese but spoke other languages That is how my journey in Accenture took off. I currently live in Lisbon with my rescue cat Ceviz (I am a true believer in “Adopt don’t shop”).

A day in my life
As a Team Lead, coordination and management are quite crucial parts of my day-to-day work. What I do ranges from developing the team for maximum efficiency, ensuring the target metrics are met, attending client meetings, working closely with other departments on a larger scope; to more specific things such as attending to the needs and problems of the people in my team as well as coaching them. I believe as a TL, connecting with your team members and acknowledging their unique experiences, thoughts and feelings go a long way while building a healthy and successful team. There is no one size fits all. This can be a good thing because all these differences contribute to the unique fabric of the team.

My advice
Working in a diverse environment in Accenture is an asset. There is always room for learning, contribution, and growth. My advice would be to grasp the opportunities available and pursue those that are in line with your interests and goals. Finally, stay positive especially during these challenging times. I find that practicing gratitude and helping other beings that are less fortunate than me (humans and animals) help me stay motivated and find my inner balance.
