To unleash the best in people, Accenture invests in training
Coming from local companies where she did accounting and business analyst work, Cherry Valdevia was surprised by the diverse work environment in Accenture when she joined 14 years ago. “I was very timid and can get easily intimidated. Accenture gave me a chance to build Finance and Accounting skills and manage stakeholders.”
Now, she is in several leadership roles: overseeing business transformation for the Manila team of a cross-border project for a utilities conglomerate and the project’s Record-to-Report (RTR) group across Manila, Bangalore, Kuala Lumpur and Buenos Aires. She also manages other Procure-to Pay (PTP) leads in the Finance and Accounting unit.
Driving business excellence, transformation and productivity efficiencies, Cherry enables her team to meet high targets by studying processes with discipline. “We all start with the mindset that every problem has a solution. We use Accenture’s Global Productivity Hub tool to prioritize which processes to study. We then perform Lean Analysis, Entitlement Study and Process Maturity Assessments.”
From there, they partner with operations, AI and automation teams to deploy innovative tools and implement practices that make processes consistent, at a lower cost. Work is allocated by a bot, matching rules are built through AI and documents are prepared via robotic process automation (RPA). In two years, their productivity exceeded by around 20% the average productivity rate within five to six years of Finance and Accounting projects.
“Accenture helped me evolve from doing manual business processes to changing the way we work in Finance. Creativity, passion and diligence are the strengths that helped me grow my career here,” Cherry said. That is how Accenture applies intelligence in operations—by bringing human ingenuity + technology to life. Investing in innovative talent like Cherry gives them tremendous opportunities to upskill, explore new technologies and get ready for the future.
With Accenture’s resources, Cherry is now an expert in finance service delivery, business process improvement and innovation, performance measurement and Order-to-Cash (OTC)/PTP/RTR transformation—even leading process workshops. She has also enrolled in Accenture’s storytelling training to improve her business presentation skills and is on her way to earning her Six Sigma Black Belt Certification. For her, excellence is a never-ending journey.
