Gabriella Akerberg - Communications, Media and Technology
Growing up I always wanted to live in the countryside. I spent a lot of time in the horse stables and loved the physical work that came with it.
At the age of 19, I decided to live the dream for real. I travelled to the Australian outback to take up mustering at a remote cattle station in Queensland. It was really hard work, and such a tough environment requires a strong can-do attitude as there's little room for hesitation.
When I started with Accenture I took with me a high work ethic, and a habit to embrace approaching challenges. With Accenture Australia I've been also able to enjoy one of my largest passions – connecting people. We recently launched an internal comms tool that operates like a social media platform. That project brought around 5,000 people from around the country together in many collaborative ways.
The difference I've been able to make here has been through my interest in people. For the last few months I've been driving an initiative called "Cultural Days" to celebrate the diversity we have in our teams and get to know one another better. It has been a very successful project and appreciated both by the client and Accenture internally. The leadership has been playing a great part in this, they provide you with the support and encouragement to help you drive the ideas you feel passionate about.

OCEAN SWIM PACE SETTER
FINANCIAL CHANGE MAKER
Ocean swimming can sound a bit intense, but essentially you just get into the ocean like it’s one giant pool and go for it. I do open water swimming with my father, so I combine my love of family with my love of sports. Often I’ll go over to the West-Coast to swim or he’ll come to Sydney and we’ll take to the water here.
My favourite place is down the road from my parents in Perth. It’s always been an area that provides a lot of calm for me. Wherever in the world you are, the beach always represents something to me that is sunny and warm. Even in the coldest places, you can step out and feel like you are being fed by the sun.
At Accenture I’ve been told I’m sociable and have no fear. As with taking on the ocean, I enjoy large challenges and working at scale. This is something I do with the banking industry. The projects are large, but that means what you can achieve is quite remarkable.
I’ve contributed to projects that have changed the way people experience banking products over the last ten years. Both in mobile banking and online banking for many institutions. Being able to create ways that assist customers to help themselves is something I’m really proud of.
Accenture works incredibly well at scale, and that means I’m able to make a difference on big things. The ones that affect people the most. We’re probably the only organisation in the professional services space with such a wide spectrum of deliverable skillsets. Most others would only be able to fulfil a portion of that. I think that makes us very special.

Soon I’ll be going to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. That probably sounds amazing, but for me it’s also a bit daunting!
Fortunately I’ll be in good company. I’m travelling with a group of people from all over the world, including a team manager who runs a charity and organised the trip. Many of those trekking with me are from Accenture and we have people from the UK, USA and Australia. It’s going to be an incredible challenge, life changing I hope. I love travelling and all that goes with it – from airports to planes, to aviation to the end-destination.
In my work with Accenture I’ve worked with various travel organisations, as well as infrastructure and pharma. My area of expertise is in products. This includes customer experience and their path to purchase – helping businesses strengthen brands, or launch new ones.
Right now I’m embarking on a project which is completely different. It explores hospitality venues and products and we’re looking into every customer interaction on their journey. What I really enjoy about what I do is you can tap right into who your customer really is. Both creatively and strategically. Not a single stone is left unturned.
At Accenture you can be yourself, but you can also improve yourself. It’s easy here to step up and build skills that can take you in any direction you want. Whether that’s growing your abilities within a project, or outside of it. There are countless ways that Accenture can take you further.
Do more, and impact more. Influence and improve businesses, governments and entire communities for the better. Here are just a few examples of what we make possible.
Bring Bigger Change
Think bigger. Then bring it to reality. Your ideas can positively impact thousands of people. From employees, through to customers and households. Work at the forefront of technology and creativity. Taking AI, apps, robotics, design and data further and bringing the new. We’re implementing the kinds of important changes that will make daily habits, such as shopping, banking and travelling even easier, and that’s just the start.
Take on meaningful challenges. Like using technology to connect students in remote locations for specialist training with the Australian Youth Orchestra. Or driving digital engagement for Rugby AU to improve the game. We’ve built systems to process millions of tax returns a year, and regularly do projects for Australia’s largest organisations – including the country’s biggest telcos, miners, retailers and broadband network.
