THE WORK
At Industry X ▪ Industrial Design (formerly known as VanBerlo), we design physical products and digital experiences. Do you want to gain experience in the ever-evolving field of industrial design? Do you like to work innovative products service systems for a sustainable future? As a Sustainability Design intern, you will have the chance to work with and learn from our creative & strategic sustainability experts, as well as the opportunity to hone your skills while working on a variety of real-life projects.
- Team(s)
- You’ll be part of our group of more than 70 creatives, including industrial designers, design engineers, UX/digital designers, strategists, researchers, developers, and project managers. Within this group, you will be part of our sustainability team.
- You will be a full member of our multidisciplinary project teams that are assembled depending on the projects that are running.
- We are based in Eindhoven and The Hague and work closely together between both studio spaces. You will work from one office, traveling to the other office occasionally.
- You will get a dedicated mentor to help you define your learning goals and find the projects that suit you and your goals best.
- Daily tasks
- You will work on a variety of projects within our two domains: Industrial Medtech & High-tech and Consumer Goods & Services.
- Participate in creative/brainstorm workshops.
- Come up with innovative and creative solutions to sustainable design problems.
- Strategic design approach for product service system strategies for circular innovation.
- Research and analyzing complexity with visualization and systems mapping.
- Service design work such as product journey mapping and assessments.
- Internship details:
- Period: 5 – 6 months
- Hours a week: 40
- Location: Industrial Design Center Eindhoven or The Hague

Qualifications
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- A hands-on can-do attitude.
- A portfolio of your work showcasing your process, what excites you and the skills you bring.
- Passion for sustainability and have a good understanding of circular economy and r-strategies.
- Being comfortable in visualizing your and other’s ideas and concepts, both analog and digital (e.g. in Procreate, Adobe Suite).
- Open for collaboration with engineers, designers, and suppliers to align on sustainability goals.
- Foundational service design knowledge.
- Proficiency in English.
- You are enrolled at a university during the entire length of the internship, pursuing a degree in Strategic Product Design, Design for Interaction, Industrial Design, Design Engineering or similar.
- You are an EU citizen or enrolled at a Dutch university.
BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE
- Experience with systems thinking and product service systems (PSS) approaches for design.
