Having completed almost 2 years at Accenture, the journey so far has been outstanding. The projects which I have undertaken during this period has shaped my career tremendously and helped me enter into the newer world of Technology Consulting, Application Development, Software design & architecture and New-IT.
One of such project which I had undertaken from Accenture was for an FINTECH company which aimed to provide newer generation of payment processing and services for Customer2Business, Business2Customers, Peer2Peer, Business2Business capitalizing on the PSD2 legislation passed by the EU parliament. The company is an entrepreneurial start-up of a Dutch multinational banking and financial services corporation headquartered in Amsterdam which was reported in 2012 by "Fortune Global 500" as the world's largest banking/financial services and insurance conglomerate by revenue with gross receipts exceeding $150 billion per annum.
The project comprised of iOS & Android smartphone applications connected to various micro services API. The micro-service architecture application is state of art with all the latest technology and innovation.
Accenture was involved in the project since its inception and took it from a concept to success which eventually resulted in carving out as an independent company. Accenture Technology was at the heart of innovation and helping the client to have one of the most advanced Fintech platforms. There were many challenges during the course of the project like digital KYC, risk, and fraud, etc. Accenture Consulting and Digital capabilities were also involved in providing adequate solutions to the client.
The working environment is great! Food, drinks, music, team dinners were organized quite frequently. Being a startup, a flat hierarchy was maintained within the project which helped faster approvals and speedy launch to production.
Moving forward and talking about the IT-Landscape of the project.
The application makes use of a camera which is connected to a microcomputer. The microcomputer reads the image of the camera and analyzes the data with an Image recognition algorithm. The data is then collected on a local server which is connected to an on-line database. There is also a mobile application designed which helps the user select a parking garage as the occupation of the parking spaces are displayed graphically.
During my internship I worked at the office in Almere, here I’ve got the chance to know many colleagues who helped me tremendously during my internship. Together with the aforementioned colleagues, I worked on a small project where we made an application for Robotic process automation. We presented this application at the Accenture innovation awards (AIA). At AIA I’ve seen many other products, companies, and presentations. There were a lot of futuristic ideas that are not yet introduced on the market.
The best thing about my internship was that I got the chance to set the course as long as I could justify my choices. When I needed help or feedback my supervisor or any of my other colleagues immediately came into action to support me. There was already a lot of knowledge within Accenture on the topics that I researched during my internship so I never had to search long. Accenture also organized a lot of courses on many different topics, so I was able to attend several courses related to Java and personal development/branding.
When I finish my school in about eighteen months, Accenture would definitely be a company where I would like to work because of the flexibility of the company and the change for personal development.
The program chose to adopt an agile way of working, with two-weekly sprints and releases to production and divided the work over different Scrum teams responsible for particular domains. I started almost two years ago on this project as part of a newly engaged team.
My team primarily consisted out of Accenture colleagues and we were the lucky ones asked to implement the first micro-service in order to disburden the monolithic nature of the current application. This basically implied two great benefits: the flexibility of a greenfield implementation by building software from scratch and the possibility to select and work with a modern technology stack! Technologies like Spring Boot and RabbitMQ were selected to play a major role in the future of the platform. Within a few sprints the foundations of the new micro-service were in place and its features operational in production. The progress made by my team did not stay unnoticed and soon enough the decision was taken to introduce more micro-services into the landscape.
Now, more than fifty sprints later, the project is entering its final phase and I can say that I really enjoyed every moment of the project. A great deal of functionality has been delivered and the landscape has been enriched with a dozen of new micro-services. I have been involved in different teams and covered almost every domain of the system and besides my technical skills, I also developed my functional and professional competencies. I had the pleasure to work with outstanding professionals, in a young, dynamic and highly innovative environment. I am already looking forward to my next challenge at Accenture!
I joined Accenture 15 years ago in 2012; where I started as a Java developer on a maintenance project and have fulfilled many roles since then.
Currently, I have a manager position and am mostly involved in delivery work, but I have always kept my strong passion for technology;
Therefore Accenture was the right place for me as they were involved in big Open Source projects like Spring Batch from the start and have always encouraged me to follow relevant technical training and certifications.
Nowadays we have a partnership with NLJUG conferences yearly. Last year, for instance, we gave a demonstration on Jfall with the NAO Robot; which has great potential in the Health industry.
Accenture is still committed to Open Source has, for example, open sourced ADOP (Accenture DevOps Platform) which is a great enabler for any project to jump start with DevOps.
Overall Accenture is innovative and working with bleeding edge technology which makes Accenture a great place to work for (ambitious) tech passionate people like myself.
My latest endeavor was a complete transformation of existing systems of a client to DevOps and implementation of CICD (Continuous Integration Continuous Delivery). I was very excited to be part of this team since DevOps was an ongoing buzz word in the industry. This project quickly became more challenging as the client system was a vast integration of very complex modules built using different platforms like Cordys, Siebel, Pega, .NET and Java. The CICD implementation involved everything from SCM Integration (GIT / SVN) to building robust Integration and Delivery pipelines (Jenkins / ARA) to Test Automation (Robot Framework / Selenium / PhantomJS). Finally, this project not only demanded technical skills to set up the tools but also required us to change the way of working and the mindset of developers. It included reviewing and revising the current development and release processes to adapt automation with industry standards, followed by organizing and leading several meetings to explain the advantages and long-term benefits of CICD to development teams. It was the most challenging but a very positive and rewarding experience. Orchestrating the Automation with Jenkins and ARA led to almost 30% - 50% of reduced time for Build and Deployment. In the business world where time equals money, this automation has lowered the cost of bringing a new software product to market while maintaining high software quality at the same time.
Besides this, Accenture keeps us engaged in many pieces of training and certification programs to boost our technical skills and keep us up-to-date on the trending technologies. I am now Certified Java Professional and a Professional Scrum Master and will continue to add more. So far at Accenture I have always been engaged and challenged enough to keep me motivated.
